I think it's a tough choice honestly. Reach was probably the most solid but 3 and CE have higher peaks.

I've only played 1-3 and part of ODST, so out of those I'd give it to 3.

I've got the MCC on PC though so I'll have played all but 5 by the end of the year.

Reach had the best campaign in terms of story.

Reach, ODST & 3 are pretty much neck and neck when it comes to gameplay.

I don't hate any of them though. I find all of them enjoyable. Honestly it gets pretty hard ranking the second half.

hard to say. i loved CE/2/3, ODST was an oddball but fun, reach was solid with characters that were easy to connect to, and 4 was emotional as hell even though the promethians were a complete letdown compared to the flood.

5 was crap. and i cant seriously compare halo wars to the other halo games since they're not shooters. never tried spartan assault.

Halo Wars is tough to compre since I'm not a big RTS guy but they're still fun. I just finished Halo Wars 2 and I'm surprised at how they kept the missions pretty varied overall. Atriox is a badass villain. Hope we see more of him in other games.

Currently playing through the Halo series in chronological order. Just finished ODST.
As of now Halo 1 is in the lead.

A lot of new players seem to be pretty harsh on CE due to the recycled levels and design but I dunno. I still love it. It still has a sense of scale and mystery that was never really replicated again.

Halo 3 has the best stretch of missions in the series and is by far the best co-op campaign. But Halo 2 has the best campaign overall.

5 honestly had fun gameplay and the campaign levels themselves were designed well but the story was so fucking bad that it belongs in last place. I did enjoy a lot of the characters though. Buck was great, getting to fight alongside Blue Team was awesome, and Exuberant Witness was amazing.

I just bought the MCC on PC, having only ever played Combat Evolved, and Im really excited. I started with CE again, and its aged shockingly well.

For gameplay either 3 or Reach. Reach is great since it has no Flood at all, but 3 has higher highs and lower lows.

For world building and story it is easily Halo 2 despite its stupid cliffhanger.

CE would easily be the best if they didn't reuse entire levels. the first 5 missions are amazing, but the game falls off a cliff after that, not coincidentally when the Flood are revealed
