theyve never made a good stealth system and the map is riddled with copy paste missions. Combat is ass and super simplistic compared to most action games. And its not even about assassinations anymore

I think that's all Ubisoft games these days. I beat Breakpoint by just camping and killing AI as it entered hallways to kill me. And in the Far Cry games you can just clear outposts by sniping everyone with a silenced rifle.

All the games were building up to an epic event featuring the modern-day protagonist (Desmond?) but Ubisoft f***ed that up by killing everyone off because they didnt want to pay for voice actors or something. It was supposed to lead to something really cool

At this point I don't care about the context of the series. Just drop me in a cool setting and give me things to do. Like I really like Black Flag not because it was a really good Assassins game but because it was a really fun pirate game.

Odyssey is fun because you just get to roll around living that merc life and Classical Greece is a really fun time period.

They could drop the modern day stuff entirely at this point and I would be okay with it.

No. They can attack in groups now.

This article mentions that the modern day storyline in Valhalla will have Layla entering the animus directly, so you stay in that world at least.

Go and play the older games in the series, they're much better for the most part. I've only played the first 3 games so far (AC 1, 2 and Brotherhood) but 2 and onwards until about AC 4:Black Flag or Unity with all the patches seem to be the games that most people like and say are worth playing.

It's a lot different now - Origins and Odyssey play more like adventure RPGs a la Witcher 3 where stealth is even more optional than before. Odyssey is more punishing in this respect though, since you get a lot more enemies on you at a time and bounty hunters can come into play.

It would be fun if the enemies didn't scale with you and turn them into ... bullet sponges.

edit: Also don't know why people like 4 but not Rogue since it's essentially an improved version of the game with a tighter story to it.

Well, even as somebody who loved Rogue, I gotta admit the environments in 4 were way better and Rogue really didn't make any major gameplay improvements of substance. Just added in those stupid ambush attacks and the stupid freezing water.

IIRC it also had the business investment aspect from Brotherhood/Revelations. And I personally enjoyed the northern Atlantic coast over the Caribbean, just felt like there was more variety since you had different seasons and it was cool watching the snow fall on the deck of your ship.
