Gyromite was cool for what it did, even though it doesn't really hold up. I don't know if it was a launch title, but it did feature as a pack-in early on.

But it's SMB. It can't be anything else.

Clu Clu Land is a classic tbh, I've spent so many hours with that game.

It's probably a Namco arcade port, yeah (I would put Galaga above Pac-Man personally). Or maybe Battle City, which only predates SMB by four days, or Balloon Fight.

I guess concretely speaking, the idea was inspired by Spartan X, which I worked on at Irem. I was thinking about the boss fights in that game, and thought it could be interesting to build a game around those. I think you could say Spartan X was the basis of the whole idea for Street Fighter.
