Like I feel really bad, but I also question why I feel really bad. Do people think the entire world shut down over American politics? I'm honestly flabbergasted that we reached this level.

Sadly yes. There are a lot of people that lack basic common sense and critical thinking skills, but then you have a cut above the rest, like this guy in the story.

It always makes me laugh, yet kind of upset, when I watch those videos about people that go around asking bystanders basic questions or trivia about subjects like history or language that 99% of people in this country should know, especially if you had a K12 education and are a U.S. citizen. And they don't know any of the answers.

Stuff like "What does the 4th of July celebrate?" and they'll say "oh uh Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue".

Sad thing is, people claim this story is fake for reasons such as the guy's name not being released or it not mentioning if he had any underlying health conditions. Wouldn't that be a HIPAA violation if the hospital gave that information out without the family's consent?

I'm sure some people here heard about another guy that died recently due to COVID 19 and he also thought it was a hoax and his name has been revealed(Richard Rose III). Now people are trolling and ripping him apart on his social media pages.

Most people just go along with the idea that it is a hoax because they are selfish and would rather their life continue unaffected and take the small risk of death, which they cannot fathom actually happening to them, than possibly wear masks or not go to Applebee's for awhile. Americans are especially bad about this because they all believe good things happen to good people who deserve it and bad things happen to bad people who deserve it, which is how the well off justify the massive inequality, which is very obviously a tale they tell themselves just like the hoax people.

Its not that simple. There are plenty of people talking actual facts who are far from traditional media as can be.

Some people just think that if they believe absurd shit cause someone said it on fb or whatever platform and the majority are against it that it has to be true and subsequently they are more intelligent and clued in than anyone else outside of their idiotic little group.

You also have people that have this nonchalant "If I get it, I get it" attitude. For one thing, even if someone catches it and survives, there's no telling what kind of long term damage it can do. And it's also one thing for people not to care what could possibility happen to them, but it takes a special kind of selfishness to not care about other people they may end up effecting and possibly killing due to such recklessness.

Another problem is that people take everything our "President" says as gospel. Like that poor girl in Florida that passed away after catching the virus, but not before her mother tried treating her with hydroxychloroquine. An idea that she most likely got from Trump.

So it stands to reason she would make more money by scaring more people into thinking they are sick and going to her hospital for testing!

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has admitted recent protests and mass demonstrations have led to a spike in coronavirus cases in the city.
Garcetti revealed during a press conference on Wednesday that LA County health officials believe some of the new COVID-19 cases may have come from large groups of people gathering at rallies.
'I talked again with [Director of Public Health] Dr Barbara Ferrer about that this morning. She does think some of the spread did come from our protests,' the mayor told reporters.
'It's not the act of protesting - that's a great and American thing to do no matter what your opinion is but protesting without maintaining physical distancing, without wearing your mask, without having sanitizer - we just have to be smart.'
Garcetti had been asked if there was a link between the new cases and protests after the city - and most parts of California - saw a sharp spike in infections in the last two weeks.
The mayor noted that it was likely some people were not being conscious of the health risks nor were they taking proper precautions while going out to protest.
'Whether you're at a protest or at your home, whether in your workplace or whether you're out shopping, these rules don't change,' he added.
'We do believe there is a connection, we don't believe that everybody has been doing this safely and wherever you can, please stay at home.'
Garcetti's comments came after he had said there was no evidence to support cases were emerging from protests during a press conference on Monday.

LA County public health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer
Its highly likely, given the increased numbers that were seeing that some of this is in fact people who may have been in a crowded situation at one of the protests where there was spread, she said.
