It should have ended with the character that we've followed through the whole series, AKA Rick. Them solving the Negan problem and making some kind of civilization in Alexandria, Hilltop, etc. is the best resolution we could have hoped for. The zombie apocalypse won't be solved in any reasonable timespan, so ending it based on emotional investment with characters is the only way that makes sense.

But obviously they've elected to go a different route.

It's about finishing character and story arcs, not some epic climax. I imagine the end will just be some neulous "We got rid of all the major threats and now we look forward to rebuilding the world tomorrow".

Idk but I think it shouldve ended after the 4th or 5th season, with some of the follow season storylines pulled into those seasons instead of engaging in the filler they already were doing then. If theyd done that it wouldve actually been a fairly tight product. And they could persist with the drivel theyre doing now in a direct sequel show.

It doesn't. That's why I stopped at season 6. You need to end it yourself.

If it ever ends, the ending will consist of Daryl, with his crossbow, walking through a field.

He'll stop, look at the camera, and grunt.

He'll then turn around and start walking again as the camera pans up towards the sky as a bunch of crows fly across the sky.

End theme/credits

This shows us that Daryl is dead inside and walking ahead.

The Walking Dead

Haven't they already done the "we ARE the Walking Dead!" ending? like four times?

Anyway, if we go by the comics, there are only like, 2 seasons left. The Whisperers sacked the horde on the group recently so there can't be more than a few episodes of that left and our characters have already met the Commonwealth, so even stretching it out more (which should be done IMO the comics really rushed it) it only has a season or two to include there.

The next few seasons will be pretty fun though, I'm looking forward to seeing Daryl Marx or whoever stand up to class injustice. They also can't really do the ending anymore since basically every major character in the comics have died and the main characters in the show either died years ago or never existed to begin with.

I doubt it will end after the comics though, since its still a pretty big show. I'm expecting them to just make stuff up after they run out of comic material (maybe they can start stealing stuff from the Telltale game or something idk)

The most recent season is apparently the best one since season 3. I've heard that from every person who still watches it, and they all agree it was kind of "bleh" for a few seasons before that.

But most people aren't going to really know or give it a shot because it's just like every other show that hits season 6 and onward: it's just not interesting regardless if there's quality again.

IMO its been pretty good since they killed Rick off and started the Whisperers arc. So you could jump in like mid-season 9 and I think its a big step up. Its in a bit of an awkward place since they haven't been able to release the season finale due to COVID but season 10 (and the half of 9) were really good.

The obvious answer would be conflicts ending and them all deciding to "work together to build a happy future."

Problem is, they've already done that a thousand times.

The TV show is reaching the final arc of the comic now given how the stories have diverged who knows how that will unfold. That said the importance of the final arc is it doesn't end with a war, it ends with preventing a war and leading to change though other means. Who knows if the TV show can do that. It's so different at this point.
