Maybe I'm doing something wrong. it seems like I'm always low on ammo, fairly low on money, and generally not able to kill Big Daddys without dying like 7 or 8 times.

What gives?

I couldn't get past the first big daddy and hadn't played since >_<

My only guess is your not searching enough. If I didn't have enough ammo. I purchased some, the place is littered with stuff everywhere.

It's only the early game. Eventually you'll have ammo out the ass.

You're supposed to use the powers. It's like, the best part of the game. Playing it like a shooter just feels wrong compared to using plasmids.

I didn't usually have ammo issues, are you using your plasmids and checking every container you can?

I try to shock wrench all the regular splicers I encounter, good ammo saver.

The early part of the game forces you to be creative because of ammo scarcity. Don't be afraid to use shock+wrench jockey to take out Splicers.

Actually I love the plasmids but haven't really figured it out yet. Only one I've found to be consistently good is electro shock (with follow up wrench smash), although I haven't tried many of the others.

You should be picking up EVE hypos in various containers just like how you find medkits.

You can also buy them

You get Eve by saving or sacrificing the little sisters.

Oh shit, how did I miss that connection? The biblical references are strong in Bioshock.

Anyways, you get Eve by searching containers or buying it from the vending machines.

I'm guessing there's some kind of weighted inventory sparsity mechanic or something? I.e. if you're running low it shows up more often in crates? I don't seem able to stockpile stuff like that very well. Like I only seem to get eve when I run out.

i felt the same way, TC. i think that's the game's way of trying to force variety into your arsenal so you don't focus on one or two weapons.

If you're dying on Big Daddies so often then you need to come up with a better strategy. Shock works well on them, just make sure that you have another shock ready to go for when they break out of it other wise unload on them while they're stunned and then shock them again as soon as they break out.

You can also use those explosive containers lying around and throw them with your kinesis at them or pile them up and shoot it as soon as a big daddy is by them. You can also hack any turrets in the area to assist you and sometimes the big daddy will target them allowing you to put a few more rounds into the big daddies

It's all about planning beforehand, and since they don't attack you until you attack them this gives you as much time and space to set everything up before executing the plan.

As for ammo, I don't remember it being much of a problem. Just make sure to search every container and hack the vending machines to get lower prices on ammo if you need to buy any.

You also don't have to fight the big daddies right away. You can skip them in the first couple levels, get stronger, and then go back.

I don't really think so. I had a fuck load of resources by the middle of the game, personally. Maybe it is, though, idk.

You can literally farm enemies for ammo in this game.

I always found myself not being able to pick up all the ammo being dropped.

Bioshock 2 just threw ammo at you everywhere.

the game gets significantly easier once you get the camera and start taking pictures of the enemies. The beginning part is definitely tough if we are talking about Bioshock 1. Be sure to use shock early on.

Hacking and other environmentals are game changers; use them to your advantage.

Edit: The start is rough. Corner guard and peeking helps. Economizing ammo is key. Use what's good enough, in supply and power, to stop them. Don't go for overkills/OHKOs.

I used to dread fighting Big Daddys, in a good way. Game was really good at making you strategise and not waste ammo.

Yes, if they get aggro'ed enough. Sometimes, if flung apart, they'll get-up, attack the nearest smashable thing, then go back on patrol.

My favourite tactic for destroying Big Daddies is luring them to a bunch of explosive barrels, and using telekinesis to pick up and launch them at them. Even better if it's a Rosie model. Acetylene canisters are great for this.

It's been over a decade since I played it but I remember some sort of electric shotgun shells being very useful against Big Daddies.

Electric buck, armor piercing bullets, grenades, and later on, trap bolts. All very good for taking out daddies.

i played the whole game with the wrench on hard back in the day, that thing was mad when built right. only the final boss was an issue iirc
