Because you can't rely on mass mobilization without also having mass organization and direct action, electoral movement building, alternative media etc. So the movement exploded and then slowly contracted like any movement would, was met with police presence, meant with disdain and caricatured by the media, etc. Mass mobilization has to lead to building durable power and durable organizations/alternate institutions are it'll be ignored, co-opted, and fizzle out.

Pretty much. Their whole existence was literally "WE'RE MAD AT WALL STREET!" Why? "Uhhh... REASONS!" Such as? "*confused stammering".

The physical movement got destroyed by the NYPD in a probably less than ethical means, and the New York winter. It's all well and good to live like a homeless person in a tent city when you don't have to until the weather gets shitty.
