I take them off in my own home but I keep them on in someone elses, unless they ash me to take them off. I always hope they wont though, because my feet often smell bad.

Almost everyone I know thinks it is weird for people to take of their shoes in other people's homes. The possibility of smelly feet is one of the reasons.

Taking of one's shoes requires a higher level of intimacy than just being invited to a home.

I will probably keep them on if not directed to remove them. If I am asked to remove them I do it because literally in somebody elses house you are supposed to follow their rules.

This is true, but it's also true that some people have some nasty feet. Especially after sweating.

Most folk wear socks so I don't see their feet or smell them. I do a lot of walking/hiking too so my feet have been through a lot.

Doesnt really matter. After exercising hard, or being in extreme heat could easily soak the sock in sweat. Which could cause a bad smell, even if the socks and feet were washed prior...

After exercising and not showering you'll smell in general, so removing your shoes doesn't change that. I'd also assume you're not really here for a social visit if you visit me like that.
And I live in a hot desert. Smelly feet isn't that much of an issue, even at the end of the day.

Wash your feet and you'll have smaller problems.

People wash their feet and the sweat still stinks. I dont understand how washing will affect that. I can wash up and still have sweat that doesnt smell good. Maybe you have some weird thing in your body that makes your sweat smell sweet. But most people I know dont have sweaty feet that smell good...
