In other words, you're demanding that other people, vulnerable civilians, do something that you haven't done, aren't doing, and wouldn't do yourself -- to face practically certain death on an everyday basis. And you're telling them it's their duty, for the sake of their country, and they're cowards for not doing it. While not personally lifting a finger to directly tackle the problem of violent street crime in the cities of your own country.

If you could keep living there. But what about refugees who no longer have homes because they've been burned or bombed, and their family, friends and neighbours are all in the same boat? Who are being chased by an army or a militia that will very likely torture or kill them if it catches up with them? Who've had to abandon their livelihood because their farm is under constant attack, and who have no safety net to help them survive? There are millions of people who are in situations like this.

One of my friends was an Ethiopian girl who, at the age of 14, came home one day to find her parents being loaded into the back of an army truck by a government death squad (she never saw them again) because they were Christians. My first sister in law came to live with us because it became too dangerous to stay in her village in rural Lagos state in Nigeria, since large gangs of armed robbers prowled the countryside with total impunity.

I'm flummoxed by fuckwit Internet tough guys, living securely in safe, comfortably distant places, who have bonehead fantasies about hypothetical "armed resistance" as if Star Wars was actual, real life. If you're not one of those smug shits who pontificate about how vulnerable civilians should be fighting with sticks and stones against assault rifles and ground attack aircraft, then I apologise.

That's the idealistic view. In reality there's limited space, and even it we could fit every hardship case into this one hemishpere, it wouldn't exactly be a comfortable crowd. One of the right wing youtubers I follow says the dictators love it that potential dissidents effictively run away from home instead of banding together to depose their corrupt asses, and the problem never goes away. I found I couldn't argue with that, and while GWB was no doubt disengenious and fucked it up royally, he may have been in the right in thinking the rest of the world deserves to do well too instead of the refrugee adoption program the left wants these days. And given we can't seem to do it right without severely screwing it up, they might have to.

The flaw in that plan, is that once the dissidents leave, the doctors, engineers, and scientists soon follow.

Not every civilian has what it takes to be a soldier. Rather than let you and your family sit in an environment where murder and rape are the most likely outcome for you all, it's a more noble pursuit to bring your family to a place where that danger can't reach you.

It's all well and good to dream up this scenario of some dude picking up an AK and liberating his community, but the most likely scenario is that dude getting shot like a dog and his wife and/or children getting raped, possibly being sold into human trafficking and then killed. Seeking asylum, with its risks and detractors and the like, is a much more realistic and optimistic outcome than banding a bunch of everyday schmoes against a fully equipped army dedicated to purging them and their families from the face of the earth.
