Once you have a kid, your free time shrinks exponentially. If vidoe games are a major priority and you have nothing else going on in ur life, then you probably can still play maybe like 1-2 hours per day. I wake up at 5am just so I can work out before he wakes up and before I go to work. And after he is put down to sleep at night, I end up reading some books. Havent played video games in months, and I'm someone who has both xbox and ps4 and whose friends are playing online pretty much daily.

This holds true for like the first two, maybe three years. For me it wasn't all that bad because I had support. My girlfriend, her parents, grandparents her siblings, my parents and siblings. So my time wasn't really consumed by my daughter. Now that my daughter is 4, I have great fun with her. We even play video games together.

if they are below 5 they are usually dumb enough if you give them unplugged controller and let them sit in front of the tv/monitor

Then they get to about 3 or 4 and you can play games with them. Age 6+ they're pretty happy doing their own thing a lot of the time so it's easy to play games on handhelds or on the TV if it's not inappropriate for their age.
