So I have two PS4 consoles, one is dedicated to shooting or single player games and the other is dedicated to just fighting games.

So my issue is that some games wont allow me to play them if I dont have that PS4 set as the primary PS4.

I mean I could just keep setting them as primary every time I log in, but its pretty annoying and tedious.

so is there a way to set them both as primary?

why do you need two consoles for different genres of games?

No. You'd have to have different accounts.

This. But you could probably gameshare with yourself. I gameshare with my brother and he can play all of my games and I can play all of his.

Way it works is my brother's PS4 is set up as my primary, and my PS4 is set up as his primary. All you need to do is log in to the other account to download the purchases you want to play. It's a little bothersome especially if you have a smaller hard drive when you need to delete/download stuff, but it works great otherwise

because games nowadays take up to 40gb+ of space and I dont just play one fighting game, I like to play all of them depending on what Im feeling.

If I were to try to put them on one console they all wont fit because theyll take up too much space and say I if want to play a game that I deleted because of lack of space I would have to wait until it finishes downloading in order to play again.

Also I think Rainbow Six Seige is almost up to 100gb now and also CoD Warzone takes up a huge chunk of space. Final Fantasy 7 remake was also 100gb I believe.

I just like the convenience of switching up fighting games on the fly and not worry about deleting them and re-downloading when I want to play them again.

I dunno maybe Im just weird.

Ive been thinking of getting one of those. How does that work?

like could I play games off of the external hard drive? Or does my PS4 still have to download it from the external drive?

I'm not fully sure what you're asking, sorry.

All I know is that it has to be hooked up, and if it gets knocked loose we have to fix that before playing anything on it. It acts exactly the same as the ones on the system.

You can play off an HDD. That was your solution but you bought a new PS4 for more room.
Alternatively, I'm pretty sure you can change out the HDD to a bigger one. Might be mistaken on this second option.

Assuming one account owns all the games, just put the account on both systems. As long as the account is logged into PSN you should be able to play on any system.

I actually inherited my second PS4 from a family member that passed away a few years back. So it was pretty much collecting dust until I came up with the idea to have one dedicated to fighting games only.

I was debating on selling it, but it holds sentimental value to me.

get a big 4 or more TB external hard drive and you wont have to switch for a long time. It will cost you a USB slot but there are other ways to charge a controller.

Nope.

You need to be online with the account that bought them in order to download them, but once they're downloaded any account on the PS4 can play them.

I have 4 accounts on my PS4, and all them them have access to every game I have loaded on the hard drive currently.

Doesn't matter. Primary or not, any game downloaded to the system is available to all accounts on that system, but only the account that made the purchase can download the purchase.

Except that I can use my brother's games on my PS4, and he can use my games on his PS4, as well as other accounts on my PS4 having access to those games.

So, no. You're all wrong, and should look into how to set up game sharing on the system because it absolutely works.

His account is primary on your system, your account is primary on his system. Download a game only you own and see if it runs on a different account. Boom, denied.

Assuming you have game sharing set up proper, accounts besides yours can't play your games (not his) on "your" PS4, because it's not your primary.

I used your four times, yet I still see you using the brother's games to try to disprove this.

I have no problem with this. I'm the principle game-buyer as my brother is disabled and jobless. My brother buys like one game to my 50. My console is set up so that his account has my PS4 set as primary. I have two other accounts besides my brother's on my PS4, and each account has access to all the games. Not sure what you're doing different, but I've had mine set up for years with no issues. My son accesses the games just fine as long as they're loaded on the system, games that I've purchased even though my account is set as primary on my brother's PS4...

when your son signs in, is he fully and completely signing your account out, or is he just plainly switching accounts.

in fact, go right now, and fully sign yourself out of your ps4. click sign out and not switch. sign in to a different account, and try and play a game that you, specifically, bought.

nope

you can have as many accounts signed in at once, with just one controller

this situation is probably what you're experiencing. since your account is still signed in and active, it's reading that at least one of the accounts has a license to play the game, even though it's not the active account trying to play

xbox works the same way

If an account is set to primary on a PS4, anyone can use that players games.

If that PS4 is not that accounts Primary, that account will have access to their games but no one else.

So:

My account has my PS4 as it's primary system. My mum and brother can play my games on their accounts on my ps4.

However, if they get their own PS4, and move their account there, they will lose access to my games even if I put my account on their ps4 as I would not make their ps4 my primary system.

If my brother and I wanted to share games? I would log into his PS4 and make his ps4 my primary. He would log into my ps4 and make my ps4 his primary. Doing it this way means he has access to all my games, plus his own. And vice versa.
