It was your average DUI stop until the dude attacked the police officers once he realizes hes going to jail. So yes. Reasonable people would say that he should have allowed them to cuff him and go in for DUI rather than to fight them to the ground, steal their weapon, and fire at them. Because that's how arresting criminals works in a civilized society.

So, be reasonable or die?

If someone takes your pepper spray and uses it against you, you're allowed to use deadly force.

They tried to. Watch the video closely and really pay attention to what the officers and suspect are doing. Watch the full length video (or at least the one posted in this topic in post #185)

then, watch it two more times starting from when Brooks begins to resist. Each time you watch it, pay specific attention to a different person--Brooks, the officer that he fires the taser at, and the second officer further back. Watch what they do, when, and why. It's a fairly clear sequence of events.

He didnt pull over to park his car. He just parked while in line at the drive thru and didnt move which is why people were reporting a dude was sleeping in the drive thru line. Then the cops approached him and smelled alcohol and did a breathalyzer test which he failed then shit ensued.

You realize there is a big difference between the two right? Law enforcement agencies have a lot of similarity between each other. They are organizations after all.

Like wtf is up with people treating law enforcement like they're a protected class. Just WTF. They are a profession. Their behavior and lack of accountability are what caused all of this

Also, qualified immunity is something that has been heavily criticized recently as it gives cops more legal protection. A big concern here is a lack of law enforcement accountability.

Qualified immunity doesn't stop accountability though. It protects cops and other public servants who were acting properly and things went wrong anyway. I first learned of it in a class on parole and probation, where a former PO talked about how one of his charges was involved in a murder on an approved out of state trip, and qualified immunity protected him from litigation from the victim's families.

Yeah I I referred to qualified immunity as something that provides cops MORE legal protection. I never stated it was absolute.

Qualified immunity is a good thing. It protects cops doing their job properly. It doesn't protect bad cops.

He took their taser, not their gun. At the end of the day what would have been the worse case scenario if he got away with one of their tasers? His car was going to be impounded, they had his license and knew where he lived. So worst case is... ? He gets away?
