So my dad was adopted and, according to my mom, he was always on the fence about looking for his birth family but she thought he wanted to. He tried a few times without success but mostly stopped trying. He never talked about it to me or my siblings before he passed but now my sister did that genetic test on ancestry.com and is looking for his birth family. Me and my brother feel like it's something he should have done and we shouldn't go looking for them.

Would you go looking for your birth family?

It's hard to say because idk that he thought of that avenue or not. Also don't know that they want to be found.

Your last question, 'would you go looking for your birth family' doesn't apply to you; your mom and dad were your birth family.

idk, I think it'd be interesting to meet a parent's birth family and presumably distant cousins as well.

If your dad never knew them, I wouldn't go looking for them. I don't know who my biological father is and the only reason I would bother try looking them up is for health reasons. Otherwise the man who raised me is, in my eyes, my dad.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was, and now what I'm with isn't it. And what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

I wouldn't

Not necessarily a bad idea but I would have no interest in doing that

I wouldn't, but I am a firm believer in who raises you is your family regardless if you are biologically related. I was adopted but was old enough to know my biological family. Because of the conditions that lead to my adoption were due to neglect I never really wanted to reach back out to them. I don't know the conditions that lead to your Dad's adoption, but it could be one were his biological family isn't looking/ready for that bombshell to be dropped on them.

My sister thinks she found his aunt and according to her my dad's birth mom was a teenage mother and was forced to give him up by her parents, not sure if it's actually his birth family, but she had her baby the same year and in the same town so it seems like a decent chance seeing as its small town America and not NYC or LA or anything like that

It isnt something to even consider to me. The idea of trying to find my biological dad...why? He would be no different than any other random stranger to me.

I can understand wanting your own kids vs adopting or your partner having kids from an ex but outside of that blood means nothing at all to me. Of all who i consider family theres not a single one i share blood with.

I wouldn't go looking for them. They wouldn't be my family and they wouldn't mean anything to me. The people that adopted my father would be my family.
