To me the only game that really looked next gen was, somewhat surprisingly, Ratchet and Clank. It also looked like the only one that was really taking advantage of the PS5 with the switching. The rest looked like PS4 games, and almost all of them are!

To update the earlier list of exclusives Jett is confirmed to be coming to PS4 by the way.

Yeah, but it's kinda lame to leave that info out of the reveal. It was presented as its own thing. Turns out it's basically the equivalent of DLC for a remaster of a two year old game that you now need to rebuy for a new console.

It's "Spider-Man: The Lost Legacy". Which is fine. There was no way Spider-Man 2 would be ready for the PS5 launch, that's atleast a 2022 game, if not later still.

Well, the issue is that the way they're describing it makes it sound like it's not even that, since they felt the need to make clear that it's just extra content added to a remaster/rerelease of the original game, so that calls the length into question.

They make it sound like it's attached to a remaster:

"There's a substantial Miles Morales component which is the expansion element but also within the game as well there's been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features," Rutter explained.

"Within the game as well" implies the original game.

EDIT: I wouldn't be upset at all if it was a standalone expansion since it'd probably come at a lower price. But instead this raises the likelihood of it being a full price re-purchase of the original game with a few "Ooh shiny" PS5 enhancements thrown in.

Considering everyone just refers to it as some "Sony executive", I'm assuming it was just someone who didn't realize how defined the term "expansion" is in gaming.

If you wanna pull back and go with the general definition of the word, basically all sequels and follow-ups are "expansions" of the original's story.

To be fair standalone expansions have existed for almost as long as expansions. Its a silly phrase but it makes sense. Its extra content you dont need the original to play.

Also ideally you would play as both in 2.

Is Ratchet also launch? I guess standalone expansion makes sense cause two big Insomniac games within a year sounds ambitious, but maybe they are bigger than I thought.

Finally got around to some of the trailers, Deathloop seems really cool, interested in Kena and Ghostwire too

Ratchet didnt have a timeframe. Not only would I not expect it at launch, I wouldnt necessarily expect it next year either. As a general rule if they dont at least put a year with the trailer dont expect it any time soon!

The launch games shown were:

Astros Playroom (pre-loaded on the PS5)
Godfall
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Bugsnax

We also know Assassins Creed Valhalla, Outriders (assuming it doesnt get delayed) and the Observer remaster. Yep that is a console launch alright.

I don't think they'd set up Miles in the first one and then do this. I think he'd have to die here to not be playable in 2. But they're also not just going to get rid of Peter, so I wondered if they'd go the GTAV route of character switching. Call it Spider-men or some shit.

Theyre doing their own thing in Warzone probably. That is a very likely launch game as well. Definitely cutting it fine on the announcement though.

I also forgot that NBA was shown and is a launch game. Madden is confirmed at launch as well, so yes, sports.
