Shocked at people just learning about his past in the comments. Thought it was just common knowledge at this point.

Wasn't he in high school? If someone is in there 40s and you need to reach all the way back to their teen years to drag them, that just proves to me they actually changed over time.

Yeah. He also did drugs.

It wasn't until his brother Donnie intervened that he turned over a new leaf and even apologized for the things he did when he was younger.

in 2006, Wahlberg said the right thing for him to do would be to meet with Trinh and make amends, though he had not done so.[86] In 2016, while requesting a pardon for his conviction for the assault on Trinh, Wahlberg said he had met with Trinh and apologized "for those horrific acts." Trinh released a public statement forgiving Wahlberg.

It's also a bit hypocritical because George Floyd committed crimes himself in the past, but if they get brought up they talk about how people can change over time.

He did that shit as a teenager. According to this board tenagers are children who don't know any better. Either teenagers are children who don't know better because they are under 18 or they are adults who should be afforded all the privileges of an adult.

Which is it? You don't get to choose both.

Right. And the point of ther protests, presumably, is to raise awareness so people change. But here's an example of a guy who did change and he gets dragged for it...40 years later. Doesn't make sense no matter how you look at it.

What he did was very VERY wrong but you go 34 years without doing something racist and co-star alongside black people etc. then....
I mean, he grew up in Boston. White people are pretty much taught to be racist there. The same way your (great?) grandpa (if they are/were white) likely used to be racist too

Doesnt excuse what he did of course, but I think its safe to say hes clearly a different person now and learned from his past mistakes

And why attack him for it now? this has been a known thing

One of the black children attacked by Wahlberg opposed the pardon, saying: "a racist will always be a racist."[94]Judith Beals, who had been the prosecutor in some of the cases, argued that "Wahlberg has never acknowledged the racial nature of his crimes" and that a pardon would undermine Wahlberg's charity work, saying: "a formal public pardon would highlight all too clearly that if you are white and a movie star, a different standard applies. Is that really what Wahlberg wants?"

what about the other people?

Does this kid also believe that criminals cannot be rehabilitated and that if you've served any time in prison, you should carry that stigma around with you for the rest of your life because you will never change your mentality or your ways?
