Sadly the Korean food that gets popular here is a pretty bizarre like nondescript 4-5% of the cuisine that fits the American taste. Most people only know Korean BBQ and Tofu soup, even though when Korea was poor, BBQ was an extreme luxury as they lived in a mountainous region unfit to raise cattle effectively, which is why Korean BBQ is supposed to put heavy emphasis on filling the stomach with vegetable more than meat. That's why Korean cuisine incorporates more seafood than anything else, especially since their country is surrounded by water, which really adds to the fact that it's actual nonsense they're worldly most known for Korean BBQ.

Real Korean cuisine is a lot of soup and roots and vegetable that goes well with rice. Lots of fermentation and natural flavors. You don't get most of any of that in the food that's well known here. I'd say tofu soup is eaten a decent amount in Korea, but you'd never call it anywhere near the most popular food. You'd just have like 1-2 restaurants in a district or something might specialize in it, but they'd probably not be the most popular place in any of the district

You are correct. Although there is one other thing that came out of Korea that is awful, but I don't remember what it is. While I don't care for Korean BBQ(Or any BBQ really), It isn't some awful thing, it's just not for me.
