In Alberta they hire on the spot. One plce tossed my resume in recycling and said I/they wont be needing it. In BC they make you jump through hoops.

Hmmm... Well, three jobs, I got hired for and did the interview after like a formality. Another three jobs called back a few days later (Though, I got moved up and had the interview the same day I turned in the application). And one job was the military, which is what it is...

1) Hired unofficially then told me to apply
2) Interviewed then hired 3 months later
3) Interviewed and hired 2 months later
4) Interviewed and hired 1 month later

Cant imagine a good place hiring on spot.

Still, that means they both dont have other people invited or it isnt an important enough role to need to have a meeting and discuss thoughts among multiple people.

Can definitely see it happening for grunts.

The only jobs I have ever seen hire on the spot are ones where employees were disposable and easily replaceable.

It could also happen because they helped train you or knew you were good from before. They could have scoured you from a certain place. Or knew you were good and just needed to to get a degree or certain training done. And you could always be part of a group of people that they hired. I dont think hiring before an interview always means its not a good place...

The discussion happens throughout the process. Maybe the candidate has all the credentials you want, they aced the phone interview and the technical interview. So they already know the candidate is good and want to hire them and just need to check their personality.

Also, if the candidate worth hiring for you then theyre worth hiring for anyone. If you dont move fast someone else will.

In general when I hire someone, I interview several people. Make a pro and con list for each potential hire. Discuss them all with other managers/my boss over the next few days. Then we announce our decision. It almost always takes three days to accomplish, unless there is an outstanding applicant with previous experience.

Unless a lot of shit happened before the interview, I haven't been offered right at the end of the interview. And if all an employer has seen is your resume, it would be kinda stupid for them to just offer you a job on the spot unless they were seriously short-staffed.

Typically, lower-end jobs involve less screening than higher-paying jobs. If you've mostly worked stuff like retail, janitorial, and food service, it might make sense that you've been offered on the spot. Back when my brother was in either high school or college, a pizza place offered him a job and hired him without even interviewing him.

For higher-end jobs, the interview process itself can be all-day or take several days. Then even for a lot of entry and mid-range jobs, some employers will have three or maybe even four rounds of interviews in addition to a phone call that often acts as an initial screening.

This, pretty much, unless you have a prior relationship with the hiring manager and it's something absurdly urgent.

Can confirm, my typical interviews last 7 hours minimum and those are at least 2nd round interviews.

I don't know why you'd even want to work at a company that has such an inefficient hiring process and doesn't know what they want.
