Joe Biden = racist

I did this one last week for Trump, it's only fair to do it with Biden. "You ain't black if you vote for Trump!" "Poor kids are just as bright as white kids!"

He has no malicious intent against people based on race, if that's what you're asking. Doubt he would try to keep black people from moving into an apartment he owned, for example.

But yes, he obviously has some biases in there.

At an absolute baseline, I think he's less of a piece of shit than Trump is. Including his stupid, shitty racist slip-ups. I still think it's horseshit that this asshole gets the attention as the only viable contender against Trump, with Bernie Sanders having a support base that crosses a broad swathe of the political spectrum - from far left progressives to economic conservatives, at least in the lower end of the age brackets of which a slight majority of voters preside in - but frankly, even if Joe Biden is a racist asshole, it's hard to believe that he's an even bigger one than Donald "far left protestors are as bad as swastika-waving neo-nazis" Trump.

It shouldn't come down to that, but it does.

Some of the shit he's said in the senate, the people he still speaks fondly of and worked with that were only 1 tiny deviation from literal slave owners, the crime bill, the Trumpian way he dismisses any criticism of this by saying you have to vote for him because he actually has the best record of all time, etc etc

Idk how you can say he's not maliciously racist, even if he doesn't understand that he is. Obama picking him as his racist white friend to balance the ticket doesn't make all of this ok. Being the only alternative to Trump doesn't make him not racist either. We're just picking the racist that'll likely do less harm because of the structures around him. That's Biden.

I think this article is a good way to think about Biden on race:
https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/11/opinion/biden-busing-integration.html

As a senator from Delaware, Biden understood himself as a staunch defender of Middle American interests.

But those interests were racialized, which is how a younger Biden could at once be a committed liberal and an ardent opponent of busing to desegregate his states public schools. As an article in The Washington Post last week demonstrated, Biden was at the forefront of opposition to busing in Delaware. The rhetoric he deployed in defense of his position channeled the visceral hostility of suburban (and urban) whites whose children were bused or whose schools took in bused children.
...
Biden made a straightforward defense of white racial advantage aimed at those communities that viewed integration with suspicion and hostility. He articulated their anger. And while Biden tried to distance himself from outright demagogues like George Wallace, the former governor of Alabama and presidential candidate, his rhetoric was on the same wavelength.
...
Bidens sensitivity to the fears and anxieties of his white constituents helps explain his positions on drugs and crime in the 1980s and 1990s. He was an ardent drug warrior and tough on crime Democrat who hoped to outflank the Republican Party on those issues, winning ground from worried white voters. One of my objectives, quite frankly, is to lock Willie Horton up in jail, he said in 1990 when he was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

That line, which refers to a notorious political ad from the 1988 presidential election, gets to the heart of Bidens appeal in that era. He was working for voters who viewed cities and their denizens as carriers of crime and disorder who should be controlled if they couldnt be isolated. His central work on the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, like President Bill Clintons later support for welfare reform, was part of a larger effort to position the Democratic Party as both a defender of white middle-class interests and as a disciplinarian in clamping down on assumed black pathologies of criminality, promiscuity and dependency.
...
For decades Biden gave liberal cover to white backlash. He wasnt an incidental opponent of busing; he was a leader who helped derail integration. He didnt just vote for punitive legislation on crime and drugs; he wrote it.

Yes you did.

No, I said it was a minority issue. Because it disproportionately affects minorities, due to an interaction between racist policy and our economic system across time. Not that it only affects minorities, just that it is a problem for minorities in particular.

But there's no reason to pretend to have this discussion with you. It's not like you are attempting to have a discussion.

I thought about how that could be confusing, but no. And Biden to this day still glorifies his old friends that would've been slave owners if they were allowed.

What I mean is he's the type of dude to author the racist policy that intentionally attacked the black community but has the ego, the political sociopathy, and lost enough of his fast ball to be legitimately confused these days as to why people care about the racist things he's done when theres a cheeto in the white house.

You can't do the things he's done and still gloat about some of the friends he's kept without being maliciously racist to an extreme degree at some point.

Yeah, it requires some mental gymnastics to conclude that Joe Biden repeatedly, over a course of 30+ years, just completely accidentally gave consistent support to legislation which caused disproportionate harm to African Americans and people of color.

Oh, here's a doozy:
"Unless we do something about this, my children are going to grow up in a jungle, the jungle being a racial jungle with tensions having built so high that it is going to explode at some point. We have got to make some move on this."
-Joe Biden, 1977, on school integration

https://www.businessinsider.com/biden-said-desegregation-would-create-a-racial-jungle-2019-7
This article talks a lot more about his opposition to busing, which also exposes how limited his thinking is
For example, he concern-trolls about the quality of majority-black schools, as though them being worse is an inherent law of reality and not something that could be fixed.

Over and beyond that, this guy loved openly-racist segregationists like James Eastland, Jesse Helms, and Strom Thurmond, though of course he wasn't alone in that.
