I am extremely angry.

There are rumours, this month, that a deluxe version of Pikmin 3 is coming to the Switch. If that IS the case, then Pikmin 4 has presumably been abandoned (if it was ever being worked on, you know?). It was first announced back in about 2015, and Nintendo did eventually make it clear that it was a seperate game to Hey! Pikmin on the 3DS. Since then, there have been no videos or screenshots whatsoever, but vague assurances from Nintendo that Pikmin 4 IS in the works. However, that doesn't seem very likely anymore. I mean, they brought out Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Switch instead of Mario Kart 9, and they ported Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, instead of doing a brand new Donkey Kong.

Nintendo are well-known for messing people around, announcing games and then doing dark for several years, to say nothing of massively delay games, to the point where they're release on a completely different console, e.g. Super Mario Galaxy 1, but COME ON.

Anyone else really upset by this?

They can work on ports at the same time. Also, ports are great Way to get get extra funding and start gettin people intrested in the franchise agin.

I only played the first one for a little while. When I first got my gamecube I rented smash bros and pikmin. I played smash bros mostly and only played pikmin a little bit. I do remember liking what little I played but I never did ever play it or the sequels again.

Don't you see, though? This would "justify" them not releasing a new Pikmin game on the Switch. As I pointed out, they used this line of "reasoning" to not bother with a new Mario Kart, or new Donkey Kong.

Mario Kart, as an online game, benefits from having the massive player base already there for 8 Deluxe. Donkey Kong games were being made by Retro, who have been brought in for MP4

I would say that, if anything, a port is a great reassurance we will see 4 in the early 20s. Pikmin is a cult franchise compared to most of Nintendos heavy hitters, and its last major entry was a game nobody played because it was on a dead console. They need to remind people that shit exists lmao, its not like Luigis Mansion where its a somewhat cult series attached to a massive character.

Honestly I would love this since I never had a Wii U. I already have a couple of the Deluxe/Definitive editions of Wii U games on the Switch. So add those to the ones made for the Switch itself and its a pretty good collection games.
