If the story is true, the dad is the one who Fd up. Im also sure there is far more to the story (again assuming its true). In the story he was mostly mad about being called a bad father. He could have taken offense to any situation where his position or ability was in question (which could be why hes previous marriage ended).

I just dont believe it though, and not because of the age thing (hell, Im technically old enough to have a 20 year old son graduating and Im on Reddit all the time) but it comes across as the post trying to get awards and read by a YouTuber or picked up by some news article - what better way to get a bit of immortality than by getting a story you wrote published in some way.

His son was distancing himself from the dad so he could "focus on schoolwork" so, honestly he didn't really want a relationship with him.

Then he expects his dad to give him his prized car? Wut?

How tall is forgetting their birthday?

Not knowing their birthday or not thinking about it on the day? Because the former is far worse than the latter.

How is that a reach? That's very possible. Especially since it's not like the son ever mentioned it, either. If the son did mention it and the dad forgot, that could be bad, though. And he explains why he hasn't really been too into his life at that time. He explains that the son's calls came less and less frequently because the son himself wanted to focus more on school work. Afterwards, the husband himself started having other troubles, as well. Like his business not doing well, wife getting sick (E. coli and kidney failure), and probably other things that could take up time.

You mean how is creating an absurd hypothetical to excuse inexcusable behavior a reach? Really?

The guy cops to it being his fault and it's 100% his fault for not knowing.

The dad is no prince, either.

But, again his son was in college at that point, at that point in your life you can decide if you want to communicate or not.

The son is at fault just as much as the dad.

What inexcusable behavior am I excusing?

And I never said its not his fault. He probably shouldve asked. But its not 100% his fault. His son could have also told him. Or kept talking to him. His son was the one that slow communication down between the two of them...

It's pretty hard to have equal fault if you're comparing a son to a deadbeat dad.

Sure. But he wasn't a deadbeat dad. He may have been a shitty dad to his biological son in some areas, but wasn't a deadbeat...

Well you would be one if you had kids since you think not knowing your son's major isn't a big deal.

I don't think it warrants the deadbeat dad label. He's not winning dad of year awards.

I, too, like to argue over reddit stories where one side is told and, despite the tendency of people to color stories with their own perception and to make themselves look less bad, make snap judgements even when the narrator comes off as a jackass.
