Fortnite is a multiplayer game and we've seen multiplayer gaming lose much of its standing on GameFAQs over the past several years. Call of Duty falling out of favor on this site wasn't due to any fault on part of the series itself, but rather GameFAQs cutting back very significantly on playing any kind of online multiplayer. This was a general "across the board" multiplayer gaming deboost, although Mario Kart and Smash are the 2 exceptions that break the rules here.

yeah it is, I still play HS but even I have been declining in play lately.

Not gonna lie, I forgot Dead Space 2 was even in this contest until I got to this match in my writeups. Apparently the voters forgot as well, because Spiderman destroyed it. This actually could have been a lot worse, because Spidey was up 75-25 early before settling down. It was nice to see for us MCU fans, and it was also nice to see for licensed games on the whole. Those games tend to be rushed crap, but this one was neither rushed nor crap. In a lot of circles, Spiderman was the game of the year for 2018. That's how well done and well respected that game is, so seeing it annihilate a middling game was no surprise.

It also led to the predictable conversation that happens every single time a Spiderman or Batman game does well, which is that we need a character battle without the shackles. I fully agree with this, for the record. We've gotten too good at this and need the shakeup. Think of how unpredictable a lot of those matches would be. Spiderman vs Dante. Wolverine vs Luigi. Batman vs Kirby. Superman vs Ryu. Wonder Woman vs 2B. Thanos vs Kratos. Black Panther vs Ness. Iron Man vs Samus. Hulk vs Sephiroth. Mickey Mouse vs Sonic. Simba vs Solid Snake. Crono vs Goku.

The possibilities are endless, and it would be a ''great'' contest. We would probably lean too heavily toward nominating too many characters that aren't pure gaming characters, but so what? Allen obviously knows we want this, too, and I doubt a fellow gaming nerd like him is averse to the idea. I don't think he's refused due to lack of desire. It might simply be an issue with licensing costs and such. Who really knows? But if that contest can reasonably happen, we need to do it.

As a final side note, fuck Sony for trying to keep Spiderman out of the MCU. Sony's comic movies almost all suck ass, and this includes Into the Spiderverse. That might legitimately be the most overrated movie ever made. The first half was just dumb, but then Nic Cage, a pig, and an anime robot show up. Unless Nic Cage is being burned alive or bossed around by Sean Connery, I don't want to see him, hear him, or watch a movie that stars him. The ''only'' parts of that movie that I enjoyed were Miles and Prowler. Miles is good. Prowler is great. I'll take nothing away from those two. Everything else sucked, and I'm convinced half the stuff Board 8 gets obsessed with is an inside joke troll job. I refuse to believe you people actually like Into the Spiderverse, Shadow of the Colossus, Umineko, and Snakes on a Plane as much as you say you do. You're smarter than this. Supposedly.

Ironically, I loved the original Spiderman trilogy and Venom was alright. Granted Venom was only alright because of Tom Hardy, but hey! I don't ask for much. Just about everything else though is dog shit, especially compared to what the MCU can pull off. Yeah, I'm kissing the ring, what of it? Bite me. Those movies don't all make a billion dollars by accident, and you're not cool for not liking them.

You know what I don't like about Sony? They made a GREAT Spiderman movie, then an almost perfect 2nd movie and then they screwed it up with the 3rd movie.

Plus let's say the pull Spiderman from MCU and they make their own movies. Most movie people will keep saying:<Hey where are Spiderman's friends? Why they don't appear? Who are all these new people that I don't care about?> And you know damn well that is what will happen.

Come on Sony, you earn like 500.000.000 per movie. You know that this is better than earning 600.000.000 per movie and fans hate you because after like 2 movies the earning and the critical reception will fall for sure.

But Sony DOES have the rights I believe. For the movies. They just borrow Spiderman to Marvel for movies.

This isn't true and was just an unverified rumor that a lot of people blindly bought into

Their initial deal had Sony footing the bill but also making almost all of the money off of Homecoming, with Disney/Marvel only getting 5% but being able to use the character in the MCU.

The new deal has Disney/Marvel fronting 25% of the costs for a 25% cut and Sony is allowed to vaguely fold their films into the MCU and use Holland's Spidey to better market them. Disney/Marvel gets Spidey for two more movies before they have to renegotiate again, the 3rd Spidey and an unnamed MCU film.

It's not completely known what the initial offerings were during the new deal that caused both sides to walk away, but the strongest rumor is that Disney/Marvel wanted a 50/50 deal.

That's why I don't mind the concept of introducing limited amount of all fictional characters to the bracket. Getting the correct balance of where they will lie is going to be very lucrative for whoever wins the contest/guru. And having them all tank the contest as soon as they run into decent competition is a very valid strategy.

Before we get to the match itself, Minecraft came out in 2009. It shouldn't have been in this contest at all, and no I don't care that it was in beta in 2009. League of Legends was disallowed from this contest because its beta was in 2009, so why does Minecraft get a pass? League having an awful fanbase doesn't mean we should have selectively enforced rules on bracket entry, and their subreddit doesn't allow for rallying anymore anyway. League would have gotten ''annihilated'' in this contest, and on the off chance it got rallied, so what? Rallies are always a good thing. No one will ever convince me of otherwise. Either both League and Minecraft are eligible, or neither are.

I bring this all up because Dota 2, despite making its contest debut, never stood a chance here. It had a trash can performance against a game that GameFAQs doesn't care about at all -- Minecraft lost to Halo, of all things -- and Dota 2 did so badly here that it clearly falls in the realm of rallybait getting punished. Dota was never rallied, but this thing might as well have been a proxy for League for how hard it got buried.

By the way, if you haven't listened to Ngamer's pro Dota rant on The Show, I suggest you check it out. I probably played 10,000 games of the original Dota, and I still voted for Minecraft here. The fanbase is truly that horrible, and it's what finally (mercifully) got me to quit. NG still loves the franchise though, and bless his little heart for it. I can see why. The games truly are a remarkable accomplishment and no two games are the same, but the actual people who play it are so, so awful. Co-op gameplay is probably not something I would ever bother with again, but I don't necessarily regret my old Dota playing days. They're some of the best gaming memories of my entire life. I just wish it actually... you know. Mattered?

NG had a very funny point about why Dota 2 wouldn't get rallied here even if it wasn't in line to get punished. Voting for Dota 2 constitutes "not playing Dota 2" behavior, and the fans would never do such a thing. Exactly my point, NG. You're just a lot nicer about it than I am. The difference between Umineko and the Trails series is that Umineko actually ended. Falcom continues to release Trails games, with the 10th game in the series being released in Japan plus the 9th game in the series being released overseas (though two games still have not had an overseas release yet) this year.

Random anecdote, that reminds me that 99% of these rabid Dota kiddies are most likely highly ignorant of that one exception being taken directly from the Unreal Tournament series with permission from Epic Games, just as a vast majority of younger laddies are perhaps most unaware that the Unreal Engine was named for that same series which it was first developed for, because Epic has succeeded in memory-holing their company history the moment Fortnite became a pop culture juggernaut (to the point that their pre-Fortnite catalogue is sold on GOG, not the Epic Game Store. Which, mind you, is a good thing for me).

Spiderverse is all right but certainly very overrated and every time it is touted as the best Spider-Man movie or best anything around here, it never fails to make me laugh. For a while it really did feel like liking it was the 'cool' thing to do around here and it winning the best animated movie on the board only proved to be fucking cringeworthy and pretentious.

Shadow of the Colossus on the other hand is an amazing game and that is coming from a person who did not like ICO and generally hates "gaming-is-an-art" games. I can go on and on about exactly why but I'm in no mood to post a wall of text right now.
The point I'm getting to is, your opinions on SotC and Warcraft III are ridiculous and you certainly make it a point for it to be known every single chance you get. It just speaks to how hyperbole your statements are instead of justifying your claims.
