That doesn't sound right. Even before Joker was in Smash, people seemed to really enjoy it. I heard about people enjoying it before even knowing who joker is. a cgaracter being in smash doesn't make me like the other game more...

I'd say FF7, OoT, The Last of Us, and Skyrim are in a tier of their own as most overrated games of all time. Witcher 3 might be a bit overrated, but nowhere near as bad as those.

If any "open world" walking simulator wins, BotW, Skyrim, or Witcher, it'll be bad.

You're one person. Persona 4 should've never beat GTA V and we all know it's because of Joker being a playable character in Smash and all the Smash fans voting for Persona, regardless of whether or not Joker was even in Persona 4. That, coupled with the Nintendo comment I made earlier, is the reason both games made it so far in this bracket. No other website (excluding a few others) would've had Persona 4 go over GTA V for a Game of the Decade Contest.

Sure. Im one person.same as you. Youre the only person Ive heard spewing nonsense like this. Either way, Im pretty sure the games had sold well before smash added him to the roster. And its always been a pretty popular game series, even before Smash Ultimate made Joker a playable character (and before Smash Ultimate even came out, IIRC). You seem salty because the game you didnt like didnt win. And need a reason to rationalize it.

Aside from the fact that "Appeal to Popularity" is a logical fallacy, sales numbers would suggest the complete opposite of that statement anyway.

GTA V sold more than three times as many copies in its first 24 hours on sale than Persona 5 did in its entire lifetime so far. Overall, GTA V has sold almost fifty times as many copies. And Persona 5 is the best-selling Persona game of all time - before 5, the franchise was niche at best outside of Japan.

We can argue over comparative quality of the games all we want, but it's kind of objective fact that GTA is one of the most successful and popular franchises in the history of video games, and GTA V is pretty much the most successful game in the franchise. It has fans.

People need to stop trying to equate popularity to this stuff. Games like Minecraft, World of Warcraft, mindless fps games, and even games like Smash are super popular games with tons of sales and players. Not games I would EVER consider for a contest like this.

ParanoidObsessive said it better than I could. I'm surprised a game like that was deemed better than GTA V. I know, it's all subjective, but I also believe that Joker's roster spot in Smash Ultimate and Gamefaqs' overall population being Nintendo fans helped contribute to those games getting as far as they have. I'm also not denying the series didn't have its fans before Joker's inclusion. I believe people just voted for the Persona games because "HURR DURR JOKER IN SMESH"

Then again, this is a silly contest on a video game website that means nothing in the end. The cabin fever is starting to get to me.

Probably just the designers paying lip service to Skyrim, b/c it's such a highly rated game.
The core of the gameplay and open world design in BotW is from Xenoblade, since Monolith soft helped make it.
If it borrowed heavily from any Western franchise, it'd be the Ubisoft games w/ the towers, lol

Yeah. The only things the games have in common i can think of other games have done before even Skyrim. Which are very generic things like being open world horses cooking foods

It's not even the best game in the TES series, but it is still has more ambitious gameplay and a larger volume of content than both Witcher and Breath.

It was a Zelda game. And Zelda was technically in it for a small portion. But the game was about Link's Journey afterwards. Most games are weird. And in the end, it was still a super fun game. Also, it was technically filled with alternate versions of Zelda characters...

All of the re-releases will have the same bugs that the developers never bothered to fix.

And all theyd have to do is take the UESP that numerous random people have contributed to, for free, and apply it to the game. But for whatever reason they refuse to do so.

Most of the glitches have workarounds anyways. The necklace that you can inly get the first time you enter Solitude and be gotten if you follow a strict and immediate path. The only other one that bothers me, and it might be intentional, is those buildings in Whiterun that get destroyed. I guess there are patches that rebuild them but I dont think they work on console.
