Like, I'm playing, but nothing really happens. Nobody declares war, nothing interesting happens. just me going along making technological improvements but it feels like going through the motions.

Sometimes I have really interesting, fun games, sometimes nothing interesting happens.

I've had those sort of games too in V, but not nearly as often as I do in VI. Typically on V I have to focus on balancing relations as by the time ideologies roll around, I will either be great friends with other civs or dire enemies.

Slow mid/lategame is less of a problem on higher difficulties since it takes longer to overtake the AIs in science/culture.

If you wanna really spice things up I suggest installing the Vox Populi modpack. I've yet to have a boring game with it installed

My problem last night was I picked the Iroquois who get travel bonuses in forest. So, I didnt want to clear all my forest for production and other bonuses because I planned on, at one point, making use of interconnected cities with forest.

So, that slowed down my production to where I was hardly doing anything, then add in the fact I chose to use less city states for a less crowded map, and no strife anywhere in my lands. I got so backed up with other things I didnt even have scouts going around the map until far too late.

Part of that is me being a noob at the game, which I am, but i feel like it was a bad roll of the dice as well.

I will try again this time with a different leader and we'll see what happens.

Ah, ok. I think Iroquois is one of the weaker civs since their bonus can actively work against your production needs. That's not to say you can't succeed with them, it just involves more planning to leverage their bonus better.

If you're new, I suggest reading Zigzagzigal 's guide to all the civs (if you haven't already). They give you pointers on how to best utilize a civ's bonuses. Great for when you're learning the game

I know what I am doing in general. I just sucked with the Iriqous as i've never played with them before. Other civs I would have done much better with.

I have games like that with Age of Wonders, I think those types of games happen mostly when the players arent being aggressive. Everyone just kinda blobs/turtles and eventually when theres no more room to expand then wars break out
