I've mostly seen older Ultraman shows. Towards the Future (which came out in the early 90s) is the most recent Ultra series I've watched to completion.

I think if you don't mind eventually going back to the old stuff, then just start with Kamen Rider W and follow sequentially. W/Double is just a fun ride and most of the series between it and 01 have been the same.

I was hoping it was Toshihiko Seki doing that. Takaiwa is the suit actor and he makes up one half of Momotaros while Seki makes up the other. But in this case it would've been cool to hear Seki say the message in a video lol.

So I'm just gonna take a look at the first two episodes of everything's Toei's putting on the channel.

Started with National Kid because it seemed the oldest, being in black and white and from 1960.

First episode was mostly about aliens threatening the world to stop using Nuclear weaponry, as the rest of the universe has already agreed it is too dangerous. Some kids follow a strange man into the wilderness where he then transforms into a furry, and is surrounded by other furries. They start kidnapping the children because that's usually what toku monsters do when cornered.



Enter National Kid, who is not a kid but I think an astrologist? Apparently he's already mastered the four dimensions per the intro, so dunno what he's doing beating up these mooks.



At the end of the first episode, one of the nuclear scientists gets in a car at the behest of a business man wearing a sick mask. As the car drives away, it vanishes. This is seen as a declaration of war.

Episode 2 begins with the kidnapped scientist returning, but in some sort of trance. He is directed by a voice to steal more information on their Nuclear weaponry. He is joined by two more furries, who are all surprised when National Kid phases through the door. The aliens, (called the Inca Venusians), direct the scientist to attack Kid.



What follows is one of the dumber fight scenes I've seen, where the scientist begins strangling Kid, Kid pushes him back a little, the scientist leans forward again, and then is finally thrown back. A very action and grunt-filled minute.



The rest is just an extended chase/fight sequence with the furries. One of them hits the ground too fast I guess and turns into a humanoid-shaped stain on the ground, while the other flees as soon as the police show up.

Kid requests the Venusian stain be analyzed for further info on the aliens.



National Kid is a square, that's about all I came out of this thinking. Will probably not watch more, but at its age, it's a curiosity for sure.

I've been watching from the Criterion collection and going by year, and the last one I watched was Son of Godzilla. The next one is supposed to be Destroy All Monsters. All Monsters Attack I also don't see in that image.

Ultraman Mebius is really good for something semi-modern and traditional.

Nexus is an oddity in thats its really dark and serialized. Very good, but it was cancelled prematurely and it rushed its final arc across like, three episodes. You could start with it, just know there really isnt another series like it.

For something more classic, you cant really go wrong with Ultraman (OG) or Ultraseven. The former if you want something closer to kaiju movies, the latter if youre more into general sci-fi.

I dont have any experience with the new generation, but Taiga (which finished this year) I ended up really liking. Just know that to get the full experience, you might want to check out the voice dramas that were released in tandem with the series.

I looked at the subs on KRDL by a group called Sarumina, which look like the subs in that pic. I've never heard of that group, and google tells me nothing so I'm guessing they're old enough to be called bootleggers. I've always wondered how that stuff makes it to official channels, and if there's any compensation or recognition involved.

you mean that thing where the ships go super Saiyan? (Its been a while since I watched lol) Im pretty sure it does some neat stuff later on, but its generally pretty rare for the defense team to do anything decisive.

but iirc they do pull of some really slick support strategies later on, and I think they even bail Mebius out of trouble a handful of times. But again, its been a while. ^_^;

This is the image from the tweet confirming the collaboration. I assume Kirika and Shirabe are dressed as two of those characters and Maria's new gear (which I haven't seen yet) will look like the third one. As I've said before, I'm not really familiar with Ultraman or any of those major Toku franchises.

MidnightCrewSubs giving their blessing. They were in the middle of subbing the Kuuga blu-rays, which are a damn good remaster of a show from 2000 and presumably that same source footage is being used with this.

The only problem is that the Grongi lines will also be translated, and the subtitles for their lines will not be optional. And that's a problem, because the Grongi speak in a made-up tongue that makes their motives, as well as the rest of the show, a mystery that has to be slowly unraveled by watching through. An official cypher for their language was released with the blu-rays so viewers could figure out what the Grongi are saying, but it's meant to be used on subsequent watchthroughs, as there are huge spoilers whenever the Grongi talk about what it is they're trying to do. So anyone's first watch of Kuuga via Shout will have a lot of the mystery sucked out of it. :(

But this is still a huge step for Rider and I can't wait for future licensing and hopefully physical releases too.

It's a talk show called Let's Talk Toku that Shout is airing on their television channel. I think the xenophobia guy is just a guest, but it's still a real bad look. Quoting my old post because I just reached episode 35 and want to say one more thing. Something that's cut from the youtube clip are scenes featuring two children that served as the B plot of the episode. They were in a fight over a toy castle, after which Godai--Kamen Rider Kuuga--teaches each child that they can be friends if they just learn to communicate with one another.

The final fight cuts back and forth between one child reaching out to the other to build a new castle, and Kuuga's rage.

A week late but you're fine watching in production order; that image is "canon" order. Basically at some point someone said Destroy All Monsters was the end of Showa era Goji, although obviously by production order there were films and stories coming after it; similarly All Monsters Attack was re-considered as a standalone flick (one of the three by itself in that pic), although by production order it's right after DAM.

tl;dr: yes the Showa films are out of production sequence but are in "canon" sequence, yes you're watching them the right way but save that image for re-watching in story order

Ex-Aid had a lot of extra content for some reason; in Zi-O they joke about how hard it is to keep track of the story post-series. True Ending's title is a misnomer but it is sort of important, while the Another Ending trilogy actually finishes the story and character arcs.
