I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed CoM. And while Days gameplay is weak, it's story is better than DDD, BBS, and KH3's imo.

KH2 > KH1 > KH:CoM

I stopped during the many spinoffs that came after 2 because the overall plot started to get confusing for me, and I lost interest.

Kingdom Hearts basically started out as a fun little crossover between nostalgic Disney characters and oldschool Final Fantasy characters, and then it shoved its head about 47 feet up its own ass with a massive flood of OC donut steel characters that aren't even remotely worth caring about and a backstory that's pointless at best and annoying at worst.

Now that they've mostly phased out the interesting Final Fantasy characters and are leaning into newer Disney franchises that I have zero nostalgia for, there's pretty much nothing for me there any more.

I put 2 over 1 in a purely gameplay sense; the original game suffers from several technical flaws, but it just has this charm within it that remains unmatched by any other game in the series. And the story was mostly self-contained and not a total clusterfuck yet.

It's been too long since I've played Days to rank it properly. But I do remember that the panel system was pretty creative, and I liked that different spell levels (Fire, Fira, Firaga) worked in different ways so no spell was ever really obsolete.

I actually did like Coded, but I still wouldn't rank it above any other game. Having next to no plot relevance doesn't help.

I understand at the time having a DS and a PSP to keep playing the series was a pain in the arse but that isn't a problem now. It also seems odd to ridicule a end of saga game for wanting you to play the saga.

I can barely remember most of them. And I cant really separate all of them in my head. I remember the first 2 were like great. The third one was fun for what Ive played of it. I did like a couple of the DS ones, though not like a ton. But I had fun. And I think the PSP one was fun, as well. Probably maybe better than the DS ones, but nowhere near the consoles ones... I think.

One thing about KH1 that I really liked, and which none of the subsequent titles did (at least main series) is have you revisit the worlds with upgraded enemies before initiating the final act. I know it's mostly a way to pad out the game, but it was also a way to revisit the locations and characters with the enhanced perspective gained from having completed most of the game.

Also, does anyone think KH3's DLC is worth it? It seems to be just a redo of the final act, plus boss battles for a steep $30. I'm fairly confident there will be additional story DLC, however.

While not necessarily toward the very end of the game, like in KH1, you did revisit worlds later on in KH2.

Many don't find it meh though. 83 critic rating and 8.1 user rating on metacritic isn't meh. It's a solid game. Mind you I don't expect you to have even played the series.

The second game did that too. Not so much with the platforming, since there was very little of that in the game, but new places were opened up on the second go-round and stronger enemies appeared. But that makes it more jarring that KH3 got rid of all that.

Honestly, KH3 was a bit of a disappointment even without considering the thirteen year wait. Production values were high, but so many characters got shafted on the story side. And really, Dream Drop Distance felt like just as much of a mainline KH game as KH3, if not more.

That's pretty terrible considering how long people have been waiting for it.

I played some of the first one, but I find the Disney stuff way too goofy so I can't enjoy it.

Let me enlighten you. Dream Drop Distance came out in 2012 so at best folk have been "waiting" 6 years for Kingdom Hearts 3. Although during that time we got HD remasters and a new episode added to the series so it wasn't that bad. I know it's pointless discussing anything with you. Even more so on this subject but still.

I played some of the first one, but I find the Disney stuff way too goofy so I can't enjoy it.

So we can ignore your shitposts even more than. Thanks.

8.3 is meh.

8/10 is good to me and you know having played it I'd rate it around that. I've never understood folk who think 8/10 is meh at best. No wonder so many folk cry over reviews these days.

Woof, I was afraid I had misremembered that. I haven't played 1&2 since I was in college, roughly 10 years ago.

I agree. I think they got rid of it because the worlds were bigger & longer this time around to go with the upgraded tech (could be misremembering that, too). Certainly rooms/areas were much bigger, there's nothing that really compares to the size of the toy store in KH3.

You know, for a game that's about relationships & the connections we share with others, it would have been nice to spend more time with the characters we've met throughout the series. Mass Effect 3 did a pretty good job with that, even before the DLC.
