Is that even possible with housing being a complete shitshow essentially everywhere that's more than five miles from a cow?

Its not possible if you live in an expensive city while your skills only net you a minimum wage job.

At this point its time for beans and rice, rice and beans and save up to move to somewhere else, like Wyoming.

Being poor is like being stuck in a hole. The deeper you're in the harder it is to get out.

Let's say you work long hours at a shitty job to make a living. From there that person probably has a long commute because housing is cheaper. From there you can also assume this means they have significantly less time in their day. Which means they don't really have time to upskill and get a job elsewhere. People like this can also fall back on stuff like fast food because they simply barely have any time in the day.

It's really not hard to put on some empathy shoes and think about what life is like being poor. If you can save half of your wage you're not in that situation.

You can get a cheap car and be hit with more servicing and repairs costs because you got a cheap car. Perhaps even lost income if the car breaks down on the way to work

That's what's tough about being poor. Cheap isn't often the reliable option.

General guidelines, in roughly decreasing order of fuck-your-shit-up:

1. Don't have children until you can actually afford them
2. Don't get a neck or face tattoo
3. Don't drop out of high school
4. Avoid becoming addicted to drugs, especially illegal ones
5. Don't get a useless degree in college
6. You don't need superfluous luxury items like $200 shoes, a new car, that shiny new smartphone, cable TV, Netflix, videogame consoles, or even a $6 coffee.

These are good tips. Here are some other good things to live by.

- pack a lunch to work, cook your meals at home, and only eat out on special occasions like birthdays and holidays.
- don't gamble any of your money
- use public transportation or ride a bicycle
- if you absolutely need a car save up and buy one cash so you can pay for just liability insurance
- go to a community College right out of high school and work at the community college
- never eat fast food and avoid sugary drinks
- don't buy a motorcycle
- if you can, work locally or remote
- keep rent at a minimum, that means rent a room, have roommates etc.
- avoid alcohol, weed and all other drugs like the plague
- go to church
- live with your parents as long as you can

I think this is pretty good advice on how to survive, feel free to add more.

Nothing wrong with a cash car assuming it's not gonna be a money pit

Personally I'd keep full coverage though. On the older cars that you'd pay cash for it's really not that much more than liability. When I paid mine off I checked what it would save me bumping it down to liability and it was like $12 a month.

Now $12 a month can be a lot for someone struggling paycheck to paycheck, but if someone else wrecks your car and they happen to not have insurance at all, you're fucked for a lot more than $12.

now that I think about it, its a pretty simple concept to save half of what you make every month IMO
Ok but if you're putting half your money in a cookie jar/savings account (fun fact, these earn about the same amount of interest) without any specific purpose for it, you're not doing much better.

I didnt realize until I started earning medium wage how little in the way of support and safety nets the middle class have to survive on top of paying more in taxs.

Things like food stamps arent a option, nor Medicaid, and most affordable housing options such as section 8, or cheap tiny houses like these.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVDArnoqNak

In case your wondering their rent is locked at around 250$ a month, this includes the water/electric bills......Meanwhile people making more then double their income have little to no hope of ever owning a home.
