Mine was Paper Mario TTYD.
I played(and never beat) Paper Mario 64 before TTYD but never owned it before I downloaded it on Wiis Virtual Console.

i dunno
probably zelda Ocarina of time
the save battery would reset on SNES games a lot
and then my sister would accuse me of doing it so she'd delete my save files in whatever game i was playing
and i had to share a t.v. with 4 other people

i want to say secret of mana or illusion of gaia
maybe FF2, probably most of ff2 when i was really really young
I could never get past the Sabin blitz part in FF6, I couldn't read well and then when i did learn to read i didn't understand the inputs and the you had to hit "select" at the end, then the save file would eventually reset

Back in 1998, Fallout 2, then from 1999 Final Fantasy VI, then Final Fantasy VII (which became my favourite game of all time), then Fallout 1. The rest from there on is sorta fuzzy.

Mario RPG was the first one I played but I was too young to progress past certain points (I'm pretty sure it was the pirate ship I was stuck at). Paper Mario was the first one I beat, then later on I went back to Mario RPG and beat it too.

I think Super Mario RPG was the first one I actually beat as a kid. I know I played pretty much all of the bigger snes rpgs, but I know I didn't beat them until later in life.

Tales of Symphonia. Blew my 13 year old mind that the game was so big that it needed two discs. Had I known about Paper Mario and had the money, that would've been it. But I didn't play that until after I beat TTYD. I didn't have consistent internet access (that I was allowed to use) to learn about other games until I was in high school. By then the N64 was done and the Gamecube was in its prime. Before that point, it was either Pokemon or whatever I heard about through word of mouth. AKA the dark ages at least where information was concerned.

Oh and only had the local channels on TV too. So like six channels. Man am I glad I'm an adult with my own income now lol.

Tales of Symphonia
This was the first game I played with a big plot twist so it ended up blowing my mind too. I didn't play many RPGs as a kid besides Mario and Pokemon so I think this was the 4th or 5th RPG I beat. It got me hooked onto the Tales series and RPGs in general.

I think SM RPG is the first one I ever beat, too.

Can't remember if I beat Dragon Warrior or not, but pretty sure not.
And I quit Zelda II pretty fast.

And those were the only RPGs I played before SM RPG. It was definitely the first one I truly enjoyed, and basically opened the door for me to seek out other RPGs and it'd end up becoming my favorite genre.
