It's been forever since I actually watched through the series. Nearing the end of season 4 and so far it's been mostly consistent with the first season being the absolute best and the next three being about equal.

I can't remember when it started going downhill.

Is it better than 70s show? Just finished that and I was going to take a break from sitcoms because it set the bar pretty high

I recently rewatched it and it has weird spotty sections where nothing is happening or characters regress. It was terrible to watch in it's initial run because it felt dragged out. It's not as bad when you can marathon.

Anyway, theres some arcs that suck but the only season that's majority trash is the last one. I was actually fine with the finale but most of that season is trash. The whole season happening over a few days thing sucked.

Barney should have ended up with Nora.

The series went downhill when Barney and Robin started circling around each other after it didn't work the first time.

I remember when they announced Season 8 wasn't actually going to be the final season like it was originally planned.

That's when you knew the rest if it was gonna be garbage.

"She ended up dying of a disease" was absolutely insulting.

its first 4 seasons are fantastic
the downward slope started in its 5th season and it never really recovered
it still had some good moments
and its final season concept of having the entire season just cover like 3 days in the characters lives was interesting

but the ending ruined any good will season 8 and 9 had built up
the biggest issue is that they filmed the ending in season 1. and over the years the characters had grown and changed and that ending no longer fit them
but they didnt want to alter the end and instead they tried to fit a square peg into a round hole and it did not work
the ending would have worked had the show ended in its first season. but these werent the same characters they started out as
