Today's question of the day was asked in 2009 and had a total of 80,000 votes. Fast forward to 2020 and there is only 8000 votes. Do you find the decline of GFAQs traffic depressing?

nah, its the progression of things. message boards in general are declining in favour of social media and sites like reddit, and text-only FAQs are mostly being replaced by user-run wikis and video walkthroughs, which gamefaqs has not really adopted at all

that being said, 8000 unique users still isnt nothing, but i have no idea if the site remains profitable through ad revenue since that has also sharply declined over the years

Yes this is mainly due to the fall of Web 1.0 sites, (specifically forums, image boards, and independent sites) and the rise of social media. The consolidation of communities has totally destroyed traditional internet communities.

That's because they are all irrelevant biased polls that leave out options that many people will choose. So, rather than vote for something we don't agree with, we choose not to vote at all. Much like I do in reality. Judge me. I refuse to help the government in their attempt to deceive us.

Gamefaqs members are like old people. There's less of them every passing day.

This one?
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/poll/7853-how-often-do-you-visit-gamefaqs

It got up to 10K votes...
Looking at the other years for the poll, that one (2009) in particular was much higher than others, followed by one of the 2003's at 69K (nice). The more typical total was in the 50K range (2011, one of the 2003's, etc...), and back around 2000 it was lower than it is now.

Still a big drop, but not quite that bad.

Forums are dying. Almost all my needs are met with either youtube or facebook groups. Only time I come here is when I am bored at work.

Nah, it's inevitable. As others have mentioned, forums like this have been replaced by social sites like reddit, and the original reason for this page (FAQs) have lost importance in the day and age of video walkthroughs and wikis. Back in the day, this site was the best for finding what you needed to get past that part you got stuck on in a game. However, text can only do so much compared to actually seeing gameplay in action.
