I wonder sometimes if people thought the same thing about force lightning when ROTJ came out, considering that was also never hinted at or anything before it happened.

In TLJ Snoke said that he set up that connection, yet in TROS Palpatine didnt know Rey and Ben were connected.

Yes there is and you can't deny that. A fresh franchise has wiggle room to establish new things. And established franchise doesn't and you need to hint at something if you're bringing in something new.

Luke isn't really all that powerful in the original trilogy. He's a good pilot, but gets his ass kicked in most fights.

Yeah, that one never made sense to me. Anakin, who's essentially a physical representation of the force was never godlike so why would Luke be? I hate TLJ but that's not a valid complaint. Never got it.

One of the users complained about how the Emperor used lightning because "There was no indication before that the force could do stuff like that"

A connection and a dyad are not the same thing.

Snoke set up the initial connection, their deepening bond eventually became a dyad, which is something that hadn't been seen for thousands of years. Palps had no idea. This isn't hard to follow.

I never liked the crazy force powers in EU and other stuff. The force seem so relatively...minimalistic (for lack of a better term) in the OT. The most craziest power we see is the Emperor's lighting and Luke using the force to assist them in jumps/falling.

It's like how in Lord of The Rings how the wizards there weren't shooting fireballs and doing God like stuff with their powers. It's subdued. Of course if they did a sequel Gandalf would come back and smash castles with his mind and shit.

On another note, it is funny how certain fans go "You're just mad at TLJ/ROS because they didn't follow the EU and Luke wasn't force Goku!" then go "Lol it's in the EU. Quit bitching".

I'll take Luke vs Vader over any of the newer flashier stuff. Not everything has to be over the top. The fights in the older movies weren't really about the fights anyway. They're more about the drama between the characters.

There's that video where some people redid Obi Wan vs Vader and with some editing and adding in their own fighting they made the fight look more flashy and acrobatic and epic. Now it's a cool looking and well done fight, but I don't think the movie necessarily need a huge epic fight with moves and all of that.

Snoke set up the initial bond to pollute Rey's mind and sway her to the darkside and it grew from there and backfired. Force bonds have been a thing since Knights of the Old Republic.

Rey pretty soundly beat Luke's ass on his island in The Shitty Sequel*ahem* The Last Jedi, but I mean, dude was far, far from his prime by that point and Rey was obviously totally untrained.

Luke at his prime vs. Rey at her prime would be a very interesting battle.
