Its so formulaic.

-Character who conveniently has few math equations in their intro bio will win as they will do it after the fight.

-Character who uses their ultimate move/transformation first always loses. Because the fights are like tennis instead of a tug-o-war.

-The most absurd feats are considered legit like obviously exaggerated mini games or obscure manga events for video game characters.

-Gameplay mechanics are used as facts. (Link using Z-targeting, Tifa having low defense etc)

I mean, for every Raven vs Twilight where the actual animation of the fight is a legit back and forth, theres shit like Ryu vs Jin where Jin goes devil ten seconds into the fight before Ryu uses EITHER of his two powerups. Making the end result obvious.

And all these years later, Snake vs Sam still remains the best Death Battle. Believable story line for them fighting. Constant gradual back and forth. And the badass knife fight to end it.

The worst part of the series is the one announcer with the gritty voice. Its extremely annoying and unfunny.

Super power beat down is better. They're not self proclaimed experts who state their opinions as fact. Instead the winners are chosen from viewer vote and they even make alternate endings.

I've heard of it but never watched. Everything I've read makes it sound like the worst aspects of pop culture / nerdom / fandom amped up.

It depends. Some battles are really good, but others are a ridiculous atrocity (like Ben 10 VS Green Lantern).

Not to mention the animation is getting worse. All Might vs Guy was shitty and glitchy looking.

People who take Death Battles seriously get a gold medal in missing the point. Fictional characters win and lose battles as the narrative demands. Sure, it's fun to imagine a fight between two characters, but pretending there's some scientific proof that one would beat the other is pretty laughable.

It's entertaining enough for what it is, & while I'll concede that some factors such as minigames & gag takes shouldn't count for feat analysis, I'll give it credit for at least trying to put reasonable justification for why a character would win.

Also, as predictable as it is that the losing character uses their ultimate technique first, it does make some sense. The weaker character would actually need that boost, while the other character only needs theirs in a response. Unless the weaker character has drastic power jumps or the stronger one has smaller growths, it makes sense when the characters aren't afforded the benefit of plot they'd get in their actual series.

It's a pretty average show but I've been watching screwattack for ages so it's more habit than anything

The best part of the show is definitely the character profiles and finding out their feats. The fights mostly suck

They're spaced out and entertaining enough that I enjoy watching them when they release a new one. I don't really care whether they're accurate to canon or not. I just like seeing the narrative they make about the characters and try to predict who wins.
