I am just not good at this game I can't seem to play it the way it's meant to be played and feel like I've made no progress in the time I've played

I promise that if the game stinks I will make a topic about how I hate it and you can all laugh at me - Mead on Fallout 76

Yeah I feel like you can sort of power through the difficulty in the Souls games if you're persistent, but that Sekiro really pushes you to "git gud or die trying" and that if you don't become at least halfway decent at parrying you're in for a bad time.

deflecting in Sekiro is not as hard as parrying in Dark Souls. the timing is way easier, and if you don't time it right you're just blocking instead, whereas in DS you take the hit (I think with slightly reduced damage).

the hard part is more about when to deflect and when to do other things. you have to learn basically every attack the enemy can make and come up with suitable responses. that attack means I jump, that attack means I deflect three times, that attack means I back off for a second and then get a hit in, that attack means I circle around and strike from behind, etc.etc. (and not always only 1 way to respond either). (though it is true that some fights basically are deflect forever until you win.)

also, some bosses you need to keep the pressure on them, and other bosses you need to avoid them and only get hits in when you can.

I really liked Sekiro but after hours and hours of dying to Father Owl and not even reaching phase 2 I had to just walk away. I really wanted to see the ending but it's not worth the frustration

Games like this have no appeal to me. I don't have the time or the patience anymore (and I have a lot of patience). I beat some of the toughest games on the NES/SNES when I was younger. Now I just say fuck this and walk away. I don't quite understand the appeal to others

I'm in the same boat. Don't have the time any more. Kids, family, full-time job, plus other interests. Simply no time to replay the same section of game over and over again.

I find that I also appreciate shorter, single-player games these days. Games like Witcher 3 and other sprawling epics... just don't have the time. Rather blast through a shorter game like Doom '16 or something. Short indies seem much more appealing to me these days.

I love DMC5, and so many other games that came out this year.

But in my heart... I felt Sekiro was GOTY. Its the only game this year that made my wife and kids gather around the screen and watch it with pleasure. They were with me through all the crazy moments.

Parrying's a fine mechanic, but no game should revolve entirely around it.

Not even for the difficulty's sake. In an action game, your combat needs to have more options(practical ones) than that.
