Will they get fined if they refuse to go to a homeless shelter if room is available there for them? What happens?

I mean I wouldn't blame anyone one for rather sleeping outside or in their cars rather than a homeless shelter.

My mom worked for one and told me a ton of horror stories of the shit she would see there

This

A lot of homeless people prefer being outside than in shelters or "the system" due to how fucked up it is

Know what I don't understand? Why sleeping in your car is severely frowned upon, but literally sleeping in the entryway of a business with all your junk belongings and potential drug paraphernalia is seemingly okay.

Like, I've slept in my car a few times and it seems like a cop always comes along to tap on the window. Even if you're nowhere near anyone else, can't easily be seen, etc.

I always thought that was funny. Sleeping in your car seems like the lesser of two evils for everyone that could possibly be involved, but it's not seen that way according to law enforcement.

I worked at one for six months. Let's just say the shit you might have heard is probably true. I've seen people get stabbed, robbed, set up, shoot up, sell shit and other stuff.

Probably afriad of quasi homeless traffic.

That is, a homeless on foot can't get far and won't usually go to certain places since they far away from civilzation.

But a person with a car can go anywhere since car can find civilization fast.

Sleeping it off in parked car is still considered DUI for some reason.

Well I'm sure some civilians and cops would rather you sleep in a shelter than freeze to death on the streets in the colder regions.

It's just common sense. A lot of urban areas have fully booked homeless shelters. If you have no access to private property your literal only choice is to sleep on public property.

I'm just wondering what the punishment is if you refuse to go to one if they have room available.

cop wakes em up. recites the law for sleeping in public. gives a 700$ fine and to move along.
it's what they do.

can't do much when the person doesn't want to help themselves but they could try. just a high step to getting into affordable housing.

there's places to sleep but have to hike out of the area so police cant find ya (have homeless shelters but there's only so many spots).

That's private property. The owner of the building also owns the entrance and a few feet away from it. It's also called loitering and is a crime.

Just because it's accessible to the public does not mean it's public property.

Denver has a horrific "urban camping ban" I really hope gets hit by this.

the same election that effectively legalized shrooms here also upheld the camping ban, pretty emblematic

it's only DUI if you have the keys anywhere near the ignition

and if you're perfectly sober it's not illegal to sleep in your car. I've done it all the time on long road trips at rest stops or fast food parking lots etc.
