I suspect it's mostly because they want to help others, but maybe for some it satisfies other deep-seated need. Regardless, customers act for emotional reasons at least as often as they do for other reasons.

How about instead of basing your existence on taking physical pleasure from other people, you instead work to be a positive influence in someone else's life and take the time and effort to try to meet THEIR needs? That's what many people actually find attractive. You'll probably also end up in a long term relationship that's a lot more fulfilling than a series of one night stands and you won't be a massive tool to boot.
