They totally had merchandise ready, hence them already able to roll out a bunch of shit. They want you to think they were blindsided because it's better PR to let people think they love something of their own accord rather than it having been heavily focus group tested.

Ehh...I don't mind. He doesn't have a real name, and nobody knows the name of Yoda's species. The most immediately recognizable term for him is "Baby Yoda" and I dare you to come up with a snappier, more identifiable name for him.

"The child" isn't really much of a name. It's literally just..."the child."

Walk up to somebody and say "What do you think of The Child?" and they'll look at you funny. Do the same thing, but replace "the child" with "Baby Yoda," and you'll see the point.

A name is supposed to be recognizable. The easiest, most specific way to refer to something.

Moot point, because as i said, the show literally credits it as The Child, regardless of the issues it brings. If you want something done abou that, you're arguing with the wrong person.

He's Baby Yoda because the vast majority of people who know the character know him as Baby Yoda. He'll remain Baby Yoda until a more specific name is given.

Even then, he'll still be Baby Yoda.

What would you prefer? Mando just calls him "the kid" and we don't know what Yoda's species is called. So he's either "infant alien species that happened to be the same as Yoda" or "Baby Yoda" for short.

Aside from what they're already referring to them as, no specific preference.

Frankly i'd have no problem if they never actually named either it or the Mandalorian. I think people should embrace the, uh... namelessness (?) of the characters.

But calling it Baby Yoda is wildly misleading, and shows the distinct lack of imagination that's all too common in meme-level wit.
