Maybe I'm just older and more mature but I swear the last few years of Cracked have been a lot more miss than hit.

Did they lose a bunch of their old writers?

They laid off a bunch of writers a couple years ago, but they'd been in a pretty steep decline for most of the last decade or so

Just looked it up and yeah apparently everyone's gone

Dan O'Brien got let go
Soren Bowie left

Those two were probably my favorites

Founder/editor-in-chief quit too

What a shame

I used to have their app when I was younger. I seriously felt like I watched their decline in real time.

One thing is they made a shift towards more politically-charged content at the expense of humor. Like, John Cheese wrote serious articles there but they were funny. When they picked up Adam Tod Brown though, whew. That guy didn't have a funny bone in his body.

They got more scummy with renaming articles halfway through the day to regenerate clicks (and they were always a more egregious and misleading title the second time). They also supposedly believed video would overtake listicles so they poured effort into that

Which ruins that "four people sitting in a cafe" video series they had.

I loved that.

7 years ago, minus a few days.

After this article:

https://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-truths-that-will-make-you-better-person/

Note, this is actually a good article however the massive amounts of clicks it brought them dramatically changed the paradigm of the site into just trying to replicate that article's success over and over again without really paying attention to why people were reading the article in the first place.

They were bought up by a company that had no idea how an internet based comedy magazine should be run, and they "made redundant" everyone who was making the better content.

Time is a funny thing. There is always too much of it, except when you need it the most. Then there is never enough.
