DDD was a pretty bad level, to be quite honest. Not dreadful. But bad. And there were already a couple of water levels, one of which was great fun. Tiny Huge Island was dreadful. Great concept, very poorly executed. Not much fun to play, awful graphics where the water just stopped 10 metres from the island, and the gusts of wind were cheap as fuck.

Every other level was worth including, and some were excellent, e.g. Tick Tock Clock.

The only world I remember disliking is the underwater one with that giant eel. Way too much swimming.

Dire docks was the changing water levels one, I think. It wasn't bad at all imo

You may be on to something.

Someone replaced every enemy in the game with coins and the only level that broke was that one.

Nintendo ported SM64 to the DD as a demo and the only level that broke was that one.

I don't really dislike any level when I play the game so I don't support cutting anything, but I agree that these are two lesser levels. Tiny Huge Island should be a lot better than it is.

Hazy Maze Cave is easily the worst level imo. The 100 coin star from that world is definitely the worst star to get in the game, at least.

The water-level world is Wet-Dry World.

Ah. Got all the stars way back when but I guess I'm misremembering. I was picturing the one where you pound switches to make the water rise and fall, and there was a thwomp on top of the center tower.

memory may be tricking me, but I thought that the SMB level was regular sized mario with gigantic enemies and objects (e.g. bricks), while tiny huge land didn't actually have supersized enemies?

Still, similar concept. And I think the existence of Koopa the Quick in the huge version suggests that it's normally a supersized enemy land with a gimmick of supersizing yourself to dwarf everything else.

I distinctly remember there being oversized goombas that would drop blue coins if you ground-pounded them

I don't remember the name of the level, but the one you MUST complete before fighting 2nd Bowser was the worst. The one with the excessive swimming, you immediately fall into water as soon as the stage starts.

that was Dire Dire Docks

anyway DDD wouldn't be half as bad if the game didn't force you to swim through that tunnel every fucking time.
the whirlpool area where you start was totally unnecessary and should have only been the docks themselves
