What do you want explained that wasn't clear in my topic on that board? I asked a simple question. Is there a way to open an investigation on a user that is doing everything in his power to be a giant piece of shit?

I didn't name the person. I asked if there is a way for a regular user to report someone and let the mods decide for themselves. Everything I posted in that topic should be a ban-able offense. I discovered that day that you can literally just be a giant piece of shit on the GameFAQs forums with no repercussions.

This is like asking me: "Why would the mods want to get investigate someone that constantly breaks rules, gets modded often, then gets bannings because of breaking rules, but then makes alternate accounts in order to get around the rules in order to break more rules.

I mean... why would the mods want anyone helping them do their jobs? Because they break the rules too? So... Anarchy then? OK I guess.

If one of the mods takes a liking to you and starts targetting you on the reg even for posts that arent ToS violations you see how bad they really have gotten. "Not caring" is the least of it

Oh god. Here we go again. This is like talking to a fucking brick wall.

Ignoring or blocking the user doesn't work. People ignore/block him all the time. You wanna know a fun catchphrase on the board now with multiple regular posters there? "Another _____ account? How many of these are you going to make today?"

The posts DO break rules and we DO report them. OFTEN. Nothing happens. He'll say and do blatantly rule breaking posts, brag about them, then brag that he gets away with it. Not only that, once he feels enough people have ignored his alt, he makes ANOTHER alt account and re-posts the exact same troll topics. IE: Putting him on ignore doesn't solve anything. Not only that, putting him on ignore makes it worse because he floods the board with the exact same topics, regurgitating the same exact things he's said in the past over, and over, and over, and over, and over to the point it just gets on people nerves and the board becomes empty as new users have repeatedly become aware of him and they stop visiting. They directly blame him for their dislike of the board. Old time regular posters have just become numb to him. Some just mock him openly. Others, like me just ignore his topics for the most part, especially because its very, very easy to figure out which ones are his alt accounts. He doesn't hide the fact that they are alts. He's very clear about it. Then, he makes about 5 or 6 topics a day, where he is the ONLY person in the topic arguing with himself and playing with his alt accounts like they are Barbie dolls. He literally plays house and role plays with his alts on your website and no one gives a fuck.

If you simply don't like their posts, blocking them means you don't see their posts and they can't interact with yours. How is that not useful advice?

SMFH. Yeah, if this actually worked, don't you think I would have tried it? Don't you think many of us would have tried it? It doesn't work. It doesn't work because he abuses alternate accounts. Many of the board's regular users feel defeated, as in they can't do anything to get him to go away on their end. He skirts around the ignore function. It's not good advice.

Okay, so I'm gonna switch gears and pose this to you like a moderator that does care. Let's try.

The user in question has a main account. He's loud, obnoxious, makes blatant trolling posts and he tows the line mostly with what he can get away with. Yes, he angers people, lots of people, but he pretty much behaves just enough to ... I dunno what mods call it, but it isn't "be a good poster". It's like a poster skating on thin ice, but he's not sinking in.

Then, he already has about 10 well known alt accounts that are verified by himself, and he isn't shy about saying literally the exact same things he always says on his main account, except that on his other accounts they all have a "gimmick" where he pushes one opinion over his other accounts.

This is just the start. Daily, this person makes about 3 or 4 topics with each account. That amounts to roughly 30-40 topics of him just saying the exact same things over and over, every single day. So... what part of this breaks the rules? Well, from the outside looking in, none right? So now imagine sitting through this on your favorite subject board for approximately 5 years. Every single day, about six or seven of the exact same topic, over and over for half a decade. Can you see how this would get annoying, yet not break any actual rules? The entire front page of topics on this board right now at this very minute (all 20 of them) are all him. Now, imagine you are a new user visiting this board. The very first thing you notice is that his main account is really annoying and beyond obnoxious. It gets the point that you notice that there are like five or more people that are literally repeating what that one guy says all the time. So you ask "Hey, what's the deal with that one annoying guy and his troop of agreeing people that are all clearly trolling?" Then, a regular user (Someone like me) says "Oh, that's just ______, those are all his alts. He does that." Then they say "Well, I put him on ignore like a month ago, but now there's still like 5 people that must be his new alts doing the saying the exact same boring stuff."

Again... how does the ignore feature help with this?

When you block them, and the alts, those topics disappear. You needn't see them, and they can't see you. It's more effort for them to create a new account than you to block. How is this not a decent solution?

If you frequent the DB board I think more people would understand what UR is upset about. Scotty had a stint on CE for a while with his trolling, but CE was too big for him. He's sort of like the DragonBall version of Hoth.

There is an exercise to ignoring all of his accounts. It does get to the point that every day you visit the board there is a new account to ignore it seems.

I think the main issue UR is upset about is how Scotty brings the users down and almost single handedly turned a beloved board into garbage.

Can't really do anything except mark his posts, but his alts don't really break the tos often so the best thing to do is ignore. It's really all you can do that will be somewhat effective. The mod explained how an ip ban wouldn't stop the user regardless. More alts would come. Just got to ignore the individual.
