Do they believe they're scores of black people in this country who shun their children for going to school?

I used to be a poor white guy and you would be surprised at how much poor people in the area I lived looked down on smart and successful people as "nerds" . I mean except Bill Gates they praise him for being successful even if he dropped out of school. Saying only minorities act like that is extremely racist though. I am glad I got out of my parents bad decisions, but not everyone is able to.

There is certainly a culture of anti-intellectualism that is more prevalent amongst lower income groups. Ive also read articles about this impacting black communities, but Im not sure how common it is in in 2019 and would be wary of excessive generalization. Its reinforced by peers, not parents or community leaders.

I saw it personally when I taught, but that was in rural Maine so it was primarily white kids.

I'm not sure where that idea is coming from considering there are more minorities seeking higher education. Even parents that may nit be very well educated themselves try to push their kids to make sure they graduate and get a good job. That isn't exclusive to poor minorities and a poor man with limited education is going to rely more on schools to teach the kids the things he can't.

idk, i think there is some truth to this guy's statement. buddy of mine is a HS teacher in a very rough inner-city area and he tells me that there is a lot of encouragement to the students from their peers and even parents sometimes to drop out of school & get involved in the drug trade or w/e

Less about being poor and more about culture. Some poor families push education hard on their children while others don't see school as practical when there are trades to learn.

I personally dislike Buttigieg and think his campaign is even worse than he is personally, but listening to the clip this is a pretty unobjectionable claim that doesn't imply black people or parents don't value education
