Oh no! Not all those exactly-ten-minutes-and-three-seconds videos of a guy with a camera pointed up his nose, with arrows and circles and a picture of that guy's fake 'shocked' expression on the thumbnail!!

@Questionmarktarius

Honestly, everyone leaving Youtube and jumping to Daily Motion would be the best solution. The FTC is an U.S based agency carrying out U.S laws (which fucks over Youtube since their headquarters is in the U.S). Daily Motion is in France, the FTC can't do shit to them. Daily Motion has never been popular compared to Youtube but that can easily change if there is a mass exodus of Youtube creators who decide to erase everything off of Youtube (mostly out of fear of the FTC with their $42,000 fines) and just go to Daily Motion and upload everything there.

I still watch episodes of Classic Game Room on Daily Motion (great stuff):

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xrd6jl

Hopefully everyone escapes / leaves Youtube (NOT because I hate Youtube, but because I don't want to see a shit load of people getting hit with $42,000 fines from the FTC they can't pay and then being sued in court by the FTC).

@TheBiggerWiggle

The video I posted in the opening post goes over everything else aside from video games such as adult toy collector channels, animation of all types, TV shows,, movies, and several other things that will be negatively effected by the FTC. I just emphasized gaming since this is Gamefaqs and gaming is the main thing here. But yes, the video does strongly emphasize that SEVERAL different things are going to be impacted very harshly and the video also shows the FTC legal stuff in written form (which shows how fucked up and dangerous they are).

Abandoning Youtube and everyone going to Daily Motion would be the best way to stop this mess. The FTC can't go after a French company (especially since France has certain laws set up to protect French owned businesses from other countries legal bullshit).

Legally it's about collecting information on children not about the content of the video itself.

Marking it "adult vids" when it's not actually an adult vid effectively counts as lying to collect information from children.

@kirbymuncher

They definitely don't have an understanding of it (one of the FTC guys in the video in the opening post, same guy who is planning on suing people, said that Youtube is directed at kids. I don't think he's even aware of the mature content on Youtube. He would probably have a heart attack if he saw an episode of the Angry Video Game Nerd on Youtube). Also, that written piece was written in 1998 and has never been updated. In other words, there is an extremely high chance whoever wrote those guidelines NEVER even used the internet.

Anyway, I'm going to post that image here below for people that haven't checked out the opening post video and that link. Under these legal definitions from the FTC, something like South Park and Grand Theft Auto and the UFC would fall under being "for kids", which is crazy:

The video also shows what the FTC considers "for kids" and given the way the law is written, ALL video games technically fall under "for kids only" given their legal definitions (the way it's written even something like Grand Theft Auto can fall under what the FTC considers "for kids only".

So, Ive been thinking about this. While that it true, lots of game have ratings. So, the rules end up contradicting themselves. But since the games rated T and up are legitimately not for kids, you should be able to mark them so. If the FTC fines you, go to court with a lawyer. You should be able to actually win based on the games rating. It would also cause the FTC to actually change the rules, as well. And make them more specific. Which would actually help if the shitty law still goes through. Theres still a petition and a forum on their site. And I think people should visit those places...

If you have videos of ANY kind on Youtube (even casual game clips or something you uploaded for your own amusement) you might want to be very careful on how you classify them since one mistake can lead to being sued by the FTC for $42,000). Also, if there are any videos you enjoy watching on Youtube, you might not want to get too attached to them.

Isn't the obvious workaround to label everything "for kids" to make youtube disable the ads and surveillance?

The problem is it disables like everything else. Comments, notification bells, ability to add to playlist/watch later, and I think the ability to search it or something... Not to mention, the rule goes both way. As in, labeling stuff for kids when its not get fined, as well...

Hopefully everyone escapes / leaves Youtube (NOT because I hate Youtube, but because I don't want to see a shit load of people getting hit with $42,000 fines from the FTC they can't pay and then being sued in court by the FTC).
Ive wanted something to replace YouTube for a couple of years now but Dailymotion isnt a great alternative

What about vimeo and bitchute (damn this site's censoring)?

so if all video games technically fall under "for kids only" by default given their legal definitions, would that mean that all gameplay videos would be forced to remove all swears and stuff, or risk being sued, even if they never marketed for kids to begin with?
