on sale on switch right now for $4 but i don't think it has online. I'm just mashing around for now

SNK has always been the King of Fighters

Capcom peaked in 2001 and it's been downhill since

PS4 or Fightcade for Garou is the way to go

Though peak fighting games is Capcom vs SNK 2

What makes this different then say king of fighters.

I remember a friend accidentally bought it on the 360 years ago and we just thought it was like kof with less characters.

Still enjoyed it, but at that time it was a lot of money for an older game.

The mechanics of KOF change enough between versions that it's hard to just compare this to all of them in that way. Some of them share certain things with MOTW and some of them don't. I guess the biggest mechanics of this game are the Just Defend (if you don't block an attack until the last moment it becomes a Just Defend, which recovers health and can be Guard Canceled into a special or super, also Just Defense is the only way to block in the air), Feint Attacks and Feint Cancels (fake attacks that can be canceled into other attacks, useful for extending combos), and the TOP system (when your health is in a certain range you are stronger and can do a special attack)

I will say the Fatal Fury series before this game was pretty different than KOF but this one is a little closer.

1on1 for one, and Fatal Fury is the closest to be considered as SNK's equivalent to SF. Take a look at the cast for Fatal Fury Special and you'll see all the similarities to SFII's cast.

KOF was envisioned as a crossover and has always been based on team combat barring those shitty 3D spinoffs.

I love plane switching

SNK has been better than Capcom for a very long time. SF2 may have proceeded FF by nearly a year but it wasn't long before Capcom started taking ideas from SNK. While Capcom was making new iterations of SF2 with slightly expanded rosters of characters SNK was developing entirely new casts and systems. I'm not saying Capcom's not good, but they do like to stick to a good think while SNK frequently strives for better.
