I love them but some games and their random battles happen way took frequently. Breath of Fire was one of the worst. Auto battle was a good start to help with speeding things up but every few steps gets annoying quickly

One of my fav old school rpg's was "Shadowrun" on the SNES Dragon Warrior, Breath Of Fire, Secret Of Mana, Phantasy Star, Star Ocean, Chrono Trigger, and FF.

I do sometimes wish I could go back to the 80s, with my current knowledge, and play the original Ultimas, Wizardry's, etc., on their original computers. I could probably at least figure out what was going in them now, since I've played a decent number of Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest games.

Dragon Warrior Monsters is my jam, really wished they released the remakes in NA but alas.

I used to like the ps1 Arc the Lad games, but when i died I realized you can't lose, they just restart the battle with all your earned exp and shit.

Guardians Crusade was a nice little rpg.

and Hoshigami was fun but the level spikes were too much.

Yeah I actually did like the seconds key worlds, you could get some pretty good items clearing their dungeons and whatnot, plus the various Tamers like in part 1.

I'm actually split between Joker 1 and 2, I like them both but one and it's city and islands filled with people kinda make it seem more livelier than 2, although 2 has more quality of life features.

Old school is the best.

Chrono Trigger is still the best game I've played to date.

If you like old school games, you should really try Octopath Traveler and Dragon Quest 11. Both great games - DQ11 can be played completely in 2d!

If you want a new RPG with great old school sensibilities, check out Artifact Adventure

And if you like training monsters, Siralim 1~3 (3 is probably the best, maybe? 1 is the simplest which might be good... but all 3 are pretty much the same)
