Also that "Year of XIII" thing is spoken about as if everyone was on board and clearly, that wasn't really the case. It was so heavy handed and in your face to the point it was severely grating. Even while it was happening I was wondering why Lightning's fanbase would push Fang into a victory when it could damage Lightning's chances of winning herself in the near future.

Yeah no, only if I was running around calling something "Year of X", which I'm not. I felt like Fang's win was a win for the game and not for the character, because that's exactly what the supporters painted it as. It had nothing to do with being big fans of Fang, it had to do with getting XIII a win by any means necessary which I think sucked and lacked heart.

I feel for mnk and Xuxon since they were both SMFFFC-2ers who had to go through 5/6 contests of Kefka landing Top 5 (first contest not existing yet) without the crown

So demoralizing. I didn't even plan to push for Kefka this year, he just outlived everyone else. :|

Fang is one of the more likable characters from XIII, so I can't feel bad about her winning even if the circumstances surrounding the win were questionable. I think if Vanille or (young)Hope had won instead, I would be saying something different.

True story as a supporter of year of XIII Fang was one of the only characters I never saved from it (other one being Hope).

So yeah it was pretty disappointing

Lightning, Fang, and Sazh are all fairly likable characters. Vanille isn't bad either. Snow and Hope are among my least favorite playables in the series but hey. FFXIII itself is not a game I especially enjoyed. So the thing I'm trying to say here is that Lightning, Fang, and Sazh are all greater than the sum of their parts. In a better game, with a better-presented story with far more plot turns and narrative oomph, all three of them would be awesome.

it wasn't too bad though, i still got wins for several favorites. i know Ramza was one, and i think Squall, Laguna and Seph? actually Squall might have been the one that lost to Red XIII, but still.

also Monster had a similar thing going and finally came away with a win this year, could also be the time for Kefka to break out
