A Fort Worth police officer shot and killed a woman inside her own home early Saturday while responding to a call, officials said.

Officers responded to an "open structure" call around 2:25 a.m. near the 1200 block of East Allen Avenue, east of Interstate 35W.

The officers were searching the perimeter of the home when an officer saw a person standing inside the home through the window. Officials said the officer shot once through the window "perceiving a threat."

A woman, who has not been publicly identified, was killed.

Fort Worth police officials have said the woman was black and the officer was white.

The officer has been placed on administrative leave. He has been on the Fort Worth Police Department since April 2018, officials said.

James Smith said he called the non-emergency police number to request a welfare check at his neighbor's house. He said he saw the lights on and the front door open.

"I called my police department for a welfare check. No domestic violence, no arguing, nothing that they should have been concerned about as far as them coming with guns drawn to my neighbors house," Smith said.

He said he was shocked to hear the gunshot.

"I dont know what went on in that house, but I know she wasnt a threat," Smith said.

The shooting comes in the wake of the recent murder trial for the fired Dallas police officer who killed a man inside his own apartment.

Here we go again

A gun was found inside the bedroom where she was shot, so I guess that's gonna be used against the victim...

How does it go from a welfare check to killing the person who was supposed to be checked?

Ok this one is stupid, it's not like you automatically know if someone in the home is the homeowner.

That said, you don't fucking shoot them for no reason, either.

This. From the details he requested a welfare most likely because he saw the door open. Usually it means someone broke in. But lack of training causes this. You always clear a residence with a firearm. But you approach the door and announce yourself loudly, knock, identify yourself as police. That would have solved this situation

Not sure why they included race in this he would have never known

Yeah guys if the low quality body cam makes it hard to see then the cop who saw her well enough to shoot her dead in one shot couldnt see anything.

The actual quality of the video is great. It looks low quality because its fucking pitch black

This is the exact frame where hes giving verbal Command

https://m.imgur.com/a/YnnW6Pb

If you can identify that this racist white cop was intentionally looking to shoot a black woman then you guys are gods. This a bad shoot because he didnt announce himself, didnt knock, circumstances of the door being open and at night call from a neighbor. Led them to believe it was a burglary. Instead of using proper police tactics he just goes around their backyard, Lady hears a noise and goes and checks it out. Dude with bad experience and tactics gets fucking scared and shoots. Nothing to do with race

This is clear and cut all day but people always trying to make things complicated and extra just to prevent logical thinking.

Youre arguing that he saw her and shot her dead without being able to see her

Thats never said in this post. I said he gets scared and gives verbal commands. You can give verbal commands without positively identifying someone. You dont have to be like oh I see a black lady. More like I hear and see a figure in the house moving around

Nobody is defending him. I clearly said he was wrong. I said its not a race issue. Im the only one actually talking about the tactics being used and what actually led to it. Unlike, literally everybody else. Emotions and bias led the discussion anyways

Regardless if race was involved he gave a command and within 3 seconds, shot.

Unless homeslice was charging at him, which we cannot see, he did not give the homeowner near enough time to respond, react, or comply.

With how fast it went down, it almost seemed, to me, like he didn't intend to shoot and instead had his finger inside the trigger well, when it shouldn't have been, so he (accidentally) shot the homeowner.

because there is no way in hell he had positive identification to engage.

A deciding factor here is going to be how dark the room was that this occured in. It's the middle of the night, so if the room is sufficiently lit, then you can see in from the outside and get pretty good visibility. If the room is dark then the most you'd be able to see is a silhouette.

Unless there's a deeper (conspiracy) behind why the dude called the cops out there, this actually seems pretty point blank and simple.

Fairly new cop responds to a call, doesn't appear to knock or announce himself to the household in question, goes into a low/no light area, gets spooked by a person's silhouette, issues one command then less than 2 seconds later, fires a shot that kills them.

If he hadn't had his finger in the trigger well, that person may still well be alive.

Like I said before, unless the homeowner was charging, being aggressive, or had a weapon (which given the situation of someone unannouncedly walking around their home, wouldn't be the farthest stretch of the imagination to believe) then this dude overreacted and simply tried to cover his ass by saying he "perceived a threat"

and regardless, almost nothing clears this dude. He fucked up and now he has to own that and live with whatever consequences come.
