This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Usagi - Low/Mid Fodder. No idea if anybody here is a Sailor Moon fan.

Leia - Mid/High Fodder. She is a Star Wars character, so possibly by default she can beat somebody.

Greninja - Low Midcarder/Midcarder. He is actually one of the most popular Pokemon of the current decade, with a great showing in the anime and some pretty amazing cards in the TCG, along with some decent use in the game circuit. He even got in Smash, so thats a lot for this ninja frog. Sweet.

Sailor Moon/Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon) - Mid Fodder

The gamefaqs demographic is gonna know who this is and a significant chunk probably watched Sailor Moon with Dragon Ball Z back in the day and have some nostalgia for it. There's also the chance they could go "oh, sailor moon. I remember that. eh. *votes other option*." And uh, showing up as Usagi in the poll would definitely hurt so I'm assuming she doesn't get Ren Amamiya'd here.

Princess Leia Organa (Star Wars) - High fodder

I don't think Leia's much of a favorite in general but an important Star Wars character is still an important Star Wars character.

Greninja (Pokmon) - Fodder line

Lucario barely beat Isaac in 2008 and then got crushed by Marth next round. At the time DP were the newest Pokemon games and Brawl was recent. Greninja is significantly less fresh now than Lucario was then, though being a starter's evolution and a ninja probably make up for that. But I don't really believe in post-gen 1 Pokemon in general and I figure anything Greninja's been in or done besides Smash and the core Pokemon games only matters to those who were almost certainly voting the Pokemon regardless.

Sailor Moon: High Fodder. There's that nostalgia for her series, but it's not a commanding nostalgia if you're not ertyu. I think she easily beats any Low or Mid Fodder, especially if listed as Sailor Moon, but people care more for other things.

Leia Organa: Low Midcarder. I think you guys are underrating her. We gave Darth Vader High Midcarder status and Luke Midcarder status. The latter is especially important. Leia is not THAT much weaker than Luke, and she certainly beats the crap out of any level of fodder. I think a large part is Carrie Fisher's passing, which is a boost for her based on her being iconic. I think she has a pretty damn good shot - there's no way she's fodder of any kind. No way.

Greninja: Fodder Line. Greninja is one of the only non-Gen 1 Pokemon that's so popular he will have no problem advancing to the second round, barring a matchup against a heavyweight. It's getting beyond that which is the problem. Greninja was really popular in the anime too, but we've had an entire fucking arc (S&M) since Greninja's been seen, so he's gotten weaker. Still think he has potential, so Fodder Line sounds right.

Sailor Moon: Agree with Mid Fodder.

Leia Organa: First off, I still hold that Luke winding up as a Midcarder with our overall consensus was a mistake. Anyways, I do agree that Leia is sufficiently iconic and well-liked that she will hold most of Luke's strength, and I voted Low Midcarder for him, so Fodder Line it is.

Greninja: The low end of High Fodder is my vote. What reason do I have to believe that a site of 30-year-olds cares one bit about it or what it represents? That's just killer for a Pokmon entrant without the nostalgia, that Smash won't help much because it's not a very popular or unique combatant there. It doesn't help that Lucario bombed in its prime, and while not a Pokmon, N tanked despite his huge popularity among fans of his games.

I'll go with High Fodder for Sailor Moon. Everyone knows who she is, and there is definitely some nostalgia for the show. She is the biggest icon of the magical girl anime genre, and I'm sure a decent amount of voters had a crush on her as a kid. I think that has to count for something, seeing how Tifa exceeded expectations in CBX. Unfortunately SM lacks relevant gaming history; only a few games actually had western releases.

I agree with Fodder Line for Leia based on previous arguments.

Agree with High Fodder for Greninja. Any Pokemon past Gen 2 is going to have issues getting votes on Gfaqs, and I feel that a lot of people on the site checked out before Gen 6. Greninja has smash but isn't hugely popular in the series, and design is only going to help so much.
