A lot of these guys who look trash now like spooky and Doug walker had really good hold on what was popular at the time and were better at production than random people on YouTube or google video or whatever. The problem was they never evolved

People loved loud shrieking people. For like a really long time, its how people like pewdiepie and jackscepticeye and markiplier got popular. But those guys for better or for worse changed and adapted. Doug Walker is like s time capsule to the early 2010s

He can still do a good review if he does the old style (His Mulan II review a few weeks back was well done) but I find when he tries to go too experimental it fails miserably.

The skits were fine at first because Rachel and Malcom are decent enough actors for a simple YT project, and Jim does a good set for what they have to work with, but Tamara and the rest have dragged them down in recent years.

Tamara in particular just rubs me the wrong way. Why is someone who was essentially confined to Disney animated films as a kid an actress or a film critic? Boggles my mind, and I feel bad for Scallon because she drags him into these over ambitious failures.

All of you people are seeing these content creators long past their prime and either for better or worse (or much, much worse).

But back in the day (late 2000's/early 2010's) a lot of the videos by NC, Spoony, etc. was my shit to binge watch online. Things have gone so far beyond that now. I stopped watching NC stuff a loooooong time ago and I'm not surprised about all the stuff that's come out about Channel Awesome and pretty much everyone that's ever been a part of it in recent years.

Watched that Floyd review today. That sure was... ... ...a video. I didn't hate it as much as everyone else seems to, but it definitely strayed pretty far from the usual reviewing style, and barely counted as a review in the first place, so...lol.

Its kinda funny AVGN has been going on since 2006 and still grows. Dude gets famous people on his vids. NC kinda faltered. AVGN puts effort into his videos. He knows when to stop being AVGN.

well back when the nostalgia critic was new he was funny most of the time
but now forced skits have kind of killed his videos
plus the change the channel drama

im nostalgic for old nostalgia critic
the only videos i really watch now are tamara's never seen cause i like seeing he react to movies she has never watched before.
but she hasnt put a new one out in like 3 months

I think his stuff is decent when he just does quick reviews. Like, get me in and out in about 6-9 minutes.

But no thank you to his 20-40 minute reviews that are mostly bad amateur sketches.

That's a pretty lame reason to hate someone. No brand of comedy appeals to everyone. Just don't watch an act you don't find funny.

How come people get that regarding someone like Dave Chappelle, but not the Nostalgia Critic (and no, I'm not implying they are equals in terms of comedy or controversy)?

Not at all. He just kinda sucks. Also, this is a weird hangup to have about popular opinion. Yahtzee makes a living off of telling people why their opinions suck.

I used to watch his videos (at least the Nostalgia Critic ones, didn't get into his other characters). It was entertaining to see him break down and analyze older cartoons and kid movies from the viewpoint of an adult. Originally his humor was fine, even if a joke was bad or didn't land it was usually a quick comment or pun, not a ten minute skit.

Also, I never saw his reviews as intended to be super serious or critical, at least the early ones. The point was to pick the movies apart and call out the silly things, not to seriously bash or critique. He can spend 20 minutes bashing a movie and end the review saying despite being a silly kid's movie with silly kid movie things in it, overall it's pretty good.

NC's videos were good, back when he actually reviewed old films and he didn't rely so much on skits and such.

After he cancelled NC, attempted and failed at Demo Reel, and went back to NC, things haven't been the same.
