P4 is the best playable cast in a JRPG and its not even close. They felt like a real group of high school friends for better and for worse. Reminded me a lot of my friend group in school.

I'll concede that my opinion is very much clouded by my undying love for Memories of the City and Living With Determination. The rest of the OST is just good enough that I feel comfortable with having this hot take.

Well, that's because it's only in The Answer, unfortunately.

The remix of it in P4A is pretty great, too.

I'm not saying P3 doesn't have any good songs. It just doesn't have as many as P4 or P5 do.

I love P3's soundtrack and I've listened to it a ton outside of the game, so I can't agree with that.

P5 theoretically has a great soundtrack but you hear the same 10 songs all game. Theres no variety.

P5's is the least memorable to me. It's still fine.
I like P4's because it's easy to sing along to and it gets me pumped.
P3 is also quite catchy ooh yeah pam pam pa pam pam pam pam pam bay duh baybah.

P4's problem is there's one song that's way better than all the others so you kinda forget about them. P5 also kinda has that problem to a lesser extent.

Why does that make it good? If I wanted to spend 100 hours with people that remind of my friends I would hang out with my friends

I didn't say it was bad! It just doesn't necessarily make a good character/cast. Yeah I like my friends but most of them wouldn't make very interesting video game characters. Conversely there are characters I like (like Jecht for example) who would suck in real life.

Also I think the "Persona 4's cast feels like my friends!" thing is inflated by the fact that most people played it as teenagers/young adults and played Persona 5 like 10 years later. Obvious you won't identify with teenagers as much anymore >_>

I was already in my mid-20s when I played P4 for the first time (and a lot of B8 was in the same boat, I wager), so that isn't an issue for me!

And I think P4's school setting provides more nostalgia for people in general because it's so "normal." None of the problems in the game are related to the school itself, unlike P3 and P5.

But yeah for a lot of people the parasocial bonds you form over 100 hours of hanging out with them is one of the highlights, while others care more about growth arcs and plot. But persona is probably the series that combines all these elements in the most cohesive way that doesn't feel awkward or like some parts were tacked on or neglected.
