"Don't talk about guns, talk about mental health" is a nonsense deflection, because they aren't mutually exclusive. You can care about both. The deflection is a dog whistle for "I am pro guns, stop talking about gun control." The feigned "disgust" in this thread is pearl clutching.

You can replace gun with hammer and you'd still have the same problem of using violence as a problem solving tool.

quite possibly the dumbest post i've ever read on this board, ok?

I mean, the POINT of this video is to be horrible and make people feel uncomfortable. Because people in general are far too comfortable with school shootings. It's happened so many times that it barely matters to anyone that wasn't directly impacted.

If you think that's uncomfortable, imagine living through it.

This they're selling bulletproof backpacks ffs

And yet they chose the one that suits their ulterior motive. It's not a deflection, it's pointing out their shitty tactics.

First of all, who is "they?" Are you talking about this NPO specifically or "the libs" or something? Sandy Hook Promise is not focused solely on gun control. Their primary legislative priority is focused on mental health and violence prevention. You could have figured that out on your own really easily if you weren't just projecting your skewed politics.

Like, let's not beat around the bush here. The backlash is not driven by a passionate desire for better mental health legislation, it's driven by anti-gun control sentiment. We're not stupid, let's not pretend we don't know what this is about.

Guns are absolutely the issue. You think a 20 year old could kill six adults and 20 children with a hammer?

Yes. Like, easily.

There was a guy who went on a stabbing spree on London Bridge outside Parliament, he got a load of people in a high security public space.

So how many mass-stabbings can you name over the last, let's say, 10 years with a double digit body count? Because I'd bet everything I own that the number of mass shootings that are in that category are substantially higher.

Well, the Sandy Hook shooting was perpetrated by a 20 year old man who hadn't gone to that school since 5h grade. He didn't seem to be targeting anyone specific and his motive remains a mystery. School bullying is a huge problem but it's not the only reason.

He was probably traumatized by the bullying experienced at the school though.

Anyways, this ad is powerful and real, and that's a good thing. I hated how, when growing up media always portrayed school problems as something lame like "Give me your lunch money!!" or something fake like that. When portraying bullying and school violence it needs to feel real or else there really isn't any type of powerful message that should be sent.

As long as guns are still around, all these killing sprees is just part of the curriculum.

The ad did nothing to address the mental health issue and guns aren't the issue. You can replace gun with hammer and you'd still have the same problem of using violence as a problem solving tool. The culture of violence is the issue, not the tools.

Sandy Hook wasn't some kid lashing out at classmates for bullying him or something. A grown man slaughtered a bunch of fucking 6 year olds.
