At orientation our program director highly recommended we not hook up with classmates because things get awkward. She didnt tell us what a hook up meant though. idk if she meant dont date or dont hold hands or dont make out or dont have sex with.

So how many hook ups (whatever that means to you) have you had and how many of those were your classmates or workmates? Did it get awkward?

You probably didn't. The poll glitches when you put "0" and takes it out, because of the way it was coded. You have to write "zero" out.

6-50. Surprisingly two of them happened on two different trips on a Greyhound with the girl I was sitting beside.

A few, and yea they can get awkward depending on the person. That is why I stopped doing them years ago, because you never know how someone is going to react.

Is that odd? It's a fairly common word in academia to refer to groups of students who start the same program at the same time or even certain sub-groupings within that of students who will take classes together (in larger and more structured programs).

When I was in school teachers only used it when a group of us were in trouble. I don't remember it ever being used by a professor or anybody during my college years.

It's a common term to describe a group of students, but it's not common to use it interchangeably with "classmates." The whole group is the cohort. The students within that group are not cohorts to each other.

I think making they were possibly joking. Ive heard it used jokingly. Maybe they were trying to make light of it while also explaining stuff to them...

Oh yeah, exactly. There was a pause as if looking for the right word before they chose cohorts. I think that was their way they were telling us they could have called us little shits but thought better.

That just makes me think of "cahoots," not cohorts.

6-50

My teachers didn't start using the term cohorts to refer to us students until I was working on bachelors degree. There were 13 of us at the start (3 black, 1 claiming to be Hispanic and 9 white), and we were referred to as cohort 26.

We finished with 7. No one in the group hooked up with each other. One I wouldn't have minded if I weren't married.

Why 26? Also claiming to be Hispanic?

That was our assigned number. Everyone that started that year would be 26 supposedly for both login information (so when I signed in for my classes online as well, I had to use my name, abbreviation of my major, and cohort) and their tracking for future cohorts, like we were Guinea pigs. They would see what was working and not, such as class size, demographic makeup and other factors. We were CRJU26. Nursing was NU26 and so on

Our class was pretty close knit in the end, which is to be expected after you spend at minimum of a day a week with each other for 2 years. Only one who kept their distance was a confrontational lesbian who despised men and white people even though she was caucasian herself

One guy named Billy had pasty white skin and red hair kept insisting he was Hispanic. His last name was fairly common (like Woods) and his parents were not Hispanic. He showed us a picture to prove us wrong but it didn't help him in the least. Everything he filled out for paperwork, he marked down he was Hispanic

He was tossed from the program two weeks in for showing up to class under the influence of some drugs. Tried denying it but it didn't help his case when your teacher is a former police officer and police chief.

The 3 black students dropped out within a month, the one guy was tossed 2 weeks in, one left for a "dream job" and one changed majors so she could work with her wife. Yes, we had 2 lesbians in the class

Straight up hook ups...maybe one or two.
I have pursued co workers and that's mainly been alright. I generally try to look for crazy signs before getting to know someone.
Dating is definitely what I prefer, it's got a lot more depth to it.
