While you're at work the building your son was in catches fire and the blaze is out of control.

By the time you find out and come home you discover it's too late and the building has collaspsed.

You discover one guy was nearby in the building when the fire started and could have saved your son. He had 3 options, either saving your son, his dog, or a Ming Vase valued at 67 Million Dollars. They were all in different directions and he didn't have time to reach more than one before the building collasped and so in the moment he chose his dog.

D7EnPyD

You then see the man playing with and comforting his distressed dog.

How would you react?

Interested in CE's take as when we had the polls for similar scenarios a huge chunk of CE always overwhelmingly chose their dog. So I wonder how people would feel if they were on the other side,

I'll predict that they would be upset and would have wanted the guy to save their kid.
The same things that would cause them to pick their dog in the other scenario would also cause them to want their kid saved.

We're not asking you what you would do.

CE has been asked several times and in several combinations and overwhelmingly the majority values pets above human life.

This question is how would you feel coming home to find your home burnt down, your son dead and the realization that the man who could have easily saved him chose to save his pet dog instead of your son.

Don't evade that

Or maybe you had a babysitter who also died in the fire.

It's not really important. What matters is your son is dead and the guy chose not to save him because of Scruffles.

By your logic, being trapped inside a burning building comes with an age limit.

consider someone else.

if you're mad at somebody who escaped the horrific tragedy of a fire because he wasn't considering you during the emergency, you're twisted & self-centered.

I'm not making any comment on the morality of the actions.

That's for CE to decide.

I'm just pointing out that your "He didn't choose his dog over your kid! He just decided to save his dog and leave your kid to die." is the same sentiment reworded.

what? so now this pre-teen kid is trapped in a burning building and his only hope for escape is an unknown neighbor breaking into the apartment and removing him?

so you expect a stranger to bust through a double-locked door, remove some unknown blockage, and save my kid? get real lol

the kid can go out the back door or hop out a window and hope for the best. i've never lived in a place with only one access point to the outside.

You're choosing to focus on the "LOL this is technically unrealistic" side of things to avoid the main point, which is how you would feel if you knew a stranger had the opportunity to save your kid, but chose their pet instead.

It doesn't matter how the situation transpired. The topic is simply asking how that would make you react.

reworded, indeed, from what i said. he didn't 'leave my kid to die,' my family is not his concern.

Except he did leave your kid to die because your family is not his concern or at least ranks below his dog on the concern chart

I would only been mad if the guy saved the vase. Choices like that are never easy, and I can't fault someone for following their gut and make a split-second decision like that. Something like that you can't dwell on and weigh the pros/cons. He chose, he acted quickly, and he saved a life.

i've been through a few tragic events and have known many people who have been through many more tragic events. you cannot imagine how you will react to something like your home being destroyed, let alone the loss of a loved one (personally i can't imagine having a child, let alone losing one).

but hey, that cute li'l handicapped dog i sometimes see in the stairwell or coming through the alley is alive? at least there's that. at least somebody didn't lose everything.

i'd console my neighbor and assure him that we're in this together.

Respectable.

I swear I wouldn't if I had at least one second to think about it. Let alone the moral factors, that stranger could grow up to be one of your best friends. Your dog is already your best friend, okay, but a good human friend >> a good animal friend. Stranger is a temporary condition.

As for the topic (silly as it is), I'd be very upset to make an understatement of course, but after some time I would understand that judging someone else aside, nothing I do will bring my child back.

Sorry if I sound too nice to be real. I will say this, although at first I would be glad that the person at least didn't choose an inanimate object over a living being, 67 million dollars man... you can buy a dog shelter, name it in honor of Fido and take care of a lot of pets with that money. Heck I'm gonna be completely honest, I would think twice about saving a human being over that much money. You can do a lot of good with 67 mil. Probably still save the child though.

These silly topics are entertaining lol
